Was prescribed Movi Prep for last weeks colonoscopy. Could only force 1 and 3/4 of the nauseating stuff down--took me from 4pm to 11 pm to do that, with some clear liquid inbetween. I was not completely clear (light brown discharge) but went to the appointment anyway so as to hopefully not waste the torture and no-show bill. The nurses gave me a bad time about not finishing, but the Doc said he would do the procedure anyway. After, he said no polyups this time but since he couldn't see everywhere, I would need to come in at 3 years. As i wasn't feeling in an argumentative mood (read heavily sedated) I went home. Now I'm fuming. how many 5' 1'' 130 lb. women can down the required 12 glasses of liquid in 5 hours, especially as bad as it tastes and after having liquids all day? I think this is an unrealistic regimen, and resent being asked to do so and scolded at not being able to pull it off! Jan 2009

Okay, I must be some odd aberration, but I just chugged down the 1st liter of MoviPrep in 50 minutes flat. No problems whatsoever. Taste acceptable compared to everything else I've been given for the past 5 colonscopies. Tastes like water with a slightly "off" lemony twist, with just a bit of pucker.

I prepared it early this morning, kept it cold all day, threw it over ice and sucked it down with a straw, 8oz. at a time. I should have put in one of those cute little umbrellas. :)

Seriously, I know everyone has their own experience, but I will go so far as to say the MoviPrep has been worth every last dime of the $50 copay. Just for the palatability alone. Ask for it by name!

Just waiting. . . . .

Just FYI......Nothing happened until 9:00pm, and then the dam broke. I had my baby wipes and A&D Ointment ready (these two items make ALL the difference...no stingy butt). But I only went 5 times and everything stopped at 9:30. I was certain I'd go in the bed during the night, and so prepared well. Nothing. Slept through the night. I wasn't certain that was a good thing. :|

Woke up at 6:00am and am drinking the 2nd liter now, again no problems. Eight ounces left and things are continuing to move right along. Zero cramping, but very bloated from 7:00pm-9:00pm last night before anything happened. The scope is at 11:00; if I'm clear and stopped by 10:00 when I have to be there, I will rate my MoviPrep experience a 10! :D

Took Moviprep . It was A LOT easier than I thought it would be. Tasted like thick, salty gadorade. Not bad at all. 2 liters. Not nearly as bad as some have said. I expected to gag and wish I didn't have to drink it but is wasn't bad at all. Just mix it in advance and cool it in the freezer. Than drink the required 8 ounces at a time, all at once without breathing. I found it easy. Not disgusting or producing a gagging reflect at all.

And the colonoscopy was even easier! They put you to sleep and than wake you up a half hour later. No pain, no weird feelings in your stomach...nothing. I was really impressed and surprised by how painless the whole thing was. I expected my butt to feel weird the next day but nothing. It was literally as if nothing had been done to me. So, my point being, don't stress about. It's as painless as they claim it to be!

Follow up to my MoviPrep experience on 1/13/09:

The next morning when I stopped going, I still wasn't clear, and I told my GI that when I got to the endoscopy center at 10:00am. He said, "No problem, I'm going to irrigate and suction anyway. Just as long as there's no solid material left". So it was all good. :)

I have to get scoped once a year, and even at $50, I WILL ask for MoviPrep from now on. It was that worth it. 8)

Just remember the Two Golden Rules:

1) Drink it COLD
2) Use a straw

Cheers!

I had a colonoscopy yesterday, and was worried sick that I hadn't cleaned out "enough" (it was light brown, but I was sooo sleepy and nauseous the night before I just stopped). The nurse said, "don't worry, we hose you out"... And the doctor's notes say "good prep" so I guess I did okay.

Hi -
I just finished a colonoscopy with the MoviPrep. It was my 3rd colonscopy and first with this prep. It did not go down easy, but what I found that helped me was drinking a sip of Martinelli's Apple Cidar after each gulp of the prep. It cleansed the palate of the salty slimy taste. I tried Ginger Ale also but the Martinelli's really did the trick for me. Also force down as much water as you can. Even if it means you literally have to force it down.
I too, could only finish 1 1/2 bottles but knew that I was cleaned out. My husband nagged me to continue but I would have thrown up if I drank another sip. It is nasty but it can be done. I consider myself a wimp pretty much with these types of things but I was determined to get it down. Fortunately, my results were just hemorrhoids which are stage 3 but better than the altnerative.

Best wishes to you for good results.

Scheduled to do the MoviPrep 5pm tonight and 4am tomorrow morning, with the scope at 8am.

Think I will start sooner since have a feeling it will take longer to drink this stuff--maybe start at 3pm and do the 2nd one at 2am. Glad I slept in today. Had a scope 10 years ago and couldn't retain whatever the stuff was back then (probably Golytely).

Asked him what I should do if I can't retain the MoviPrep; he said drink more slowly but I think that will prolong the "agony". Told him last time the doc had me take a lax and push fluids throughout the night, so we wouldn't have to cancel the procedure. Current doc said that can harm the kidneys. However, he won't prescribe the OsmoPrep pills and says they are hard on the liver. "Damned if you do..."

I've mixed and chilled the first batch of MoviPrep, and have a lot of clear "chaser" fluids handy, but truly concerned I won't be able to retain it and I don't want to have to cancel the procedure; just want to get it over with.

Just started this and not at all sure will be able to do it. Poured it over ice, chasing it with 7-up; I think more than anything it's the salt that's getting do me; the smell is like a lemon furniture cleaner and I can deal with that, but the salt is what triggers the "get rid of this now" reflex. Seriously thinking of pushing fluids, using a lax and not telling the doc.

Just called and canceled. Hate to do it but I can't tolerate the MoviPrep and the specialist refuses to prescribe anything else. Primary doc is sending a list of docs I will check with to see if I can find somebody to prescribe pills. There just has to be an easier way to get this done.

MoviPrep comes in a pill form also.

Interesting that MoviPrep comes in a pill. From what I understand, this doc's thinking is that the liquid preps are easier on the liver/kidneys, since he will not prescribe anything else in any other form. I've been doing a lot of calling and found another doc who does prescribe a variety of preps -- of course they couldn't say what he'd prescribe for me specifically, but this doc does have more than one plan of action. Already scheduled a consult--just have to cut my losses with the MoviPrep cost and the first specialist's co-pay--only hope the hospital doesn't hit me with a less-than-24-hours cancellation fee.

Sorry it was such a bad experience for you. It really is so different for everybody. I really can't imagine why your first GI offered the MoviPrep liquid, but not the pills. Strange. My GI preferred MoviPrep over other preps just for the results he generally gets. BUT, I was able to choose which I wanted, liquid or pills. The pills are very large and uncoated/chalky. I knew I'd have a problem swallowing so many of them, (I seem to recall it's a total of 24), so I went with the liquid.

I hope you have better luck with the GI you're working with now! :)

I had my colonoscopy today. It was so painful that the Doctor said " Next time you have a colonoscopy done, we are going to put you out through antithesia. In other words, out like in an operation. That was hell. I would not wish that on anyone. The MoviPrep was a breeze......... " NOTHING TO IT AT ALL". That prep is the easiest to drink and keep down than any other kind I`ve ever had. It taste fine. That may sound stange, but true. The straw idea that I got online from this column, was the best idea in the world. Drinking it real cold was also a great idea. Thanks for all the help. They found two polups and removed them. I will get the results tomorrow. Here`s hoping that I get a good report on them. Thanks again everyone. God bless you all. i thouhgt movie prep was an absoulte breeze compared to goltely. it is half the amount for one thing and i drank mine through a straw at room temp and did not have any troubles at all. My local docs will nor prescibe movie prep so i am driving 7 hours to mayo clinic to go have my next colonoscopy so i don't have to do golytely ever again. If you can't tolerate all of the movie prep in an evening, schedule your colonocsopy later in the day, because then you only have to drink 1/2 the night before and 1/2 the next morning.
