peripheral neuropathy aid

Postby surfingon » Sun Sep 26, 2010 8:08 pm

For those of you suffering from peripheral neuropathy of the feet, a suggestion that improved my husband's problem immensely: Z-Coil shoes. John's feet hurt him so much that he avoided moving around as much as possible and said that he was reaching the point of having to crawl to the bathroom. He was so desperate that he was even willing to consider footwear other than the slippers (you folks on the mainland call them flip-flops, I think) that were his main "shoes" for most of his adult life.

From the moment he tried on the Z-coil sandals in the store, he started walking upright and even with a bounce in his step (no pun intended-- these shoes have a giant spring instead of a heel, and an extra-thick sole...). He was so stoked that he bought 2 pairs, which represented the single largest expenditure on shoes of his entire lifetime. But what a difference they made! He started going for walks again and his world really opened back up.

You have to buy the Z-coils at a dealer; they have something like 28 different adjustments which are made according to how each individual walks. They're about $200 a pair, come in lots of different styles, and can be customized with an enclosed heel.

I hope others can benefit from this relatively simple solution to a lifestyle-limiting problem. Z-coils were a Godsend for John.
