hot lymph node on CT/PET scan

Postby Hawaii » Tue May 08, 2007 2:40 pm

Has anyone had Ablation for lymph nodes? I am looking into this as I already had my resection done and this single node was found before starting chemo(which has now been postponed).Meeting with surgeon next week, just trying to stay informed till then.

Lymph node is near original resection site, which was the transverse colon. 3cm tumor was removed there 7 wks ago. At that time, all 27 nodes taken out showed no cancer. This 1 node showed up on PET/CT scan 3 wks ago. Chemo was postponed until this node removed, hopefully soon.

Did they say how large the lymph node was? Just curious. Is it something they think will shrink with treatment? I have node too but only 5mm I don't think they are going to do anything for it at this point.

They said my node is 1cm. How are they treating yours, with chemo?

hi,
are you sure the node is just not inflamation from surgery? that is very common around a surgery site to have inflamed nodes after a surgery.

They did a Fine Needle Aspiration and the biopsy came back positive for cancer.

Hi Hawaii,
A lot of reccurrances occur within 18 mos of surgery. They often occur because not enough clear margins were taken at each side of the tumour. The tumours are removed in a field which includes the colon and connecting flange including the blood supply and regional lymph nodes.
It is possible that they should have included that set of nodes in the field. My surgeon also said that it is very difficult to detect cancer if it intrudes into the fatty tissue where the flange joins the body. The sooner they remove it the better in my opinnion and begin chemo. I was stage 3 with 6 of 13 nodes bad. They started my chemo 3 weeks after surgery. I was dx and had my surgery Jan22 1998 and I have been ca free since ,you have my best wishes for a long and ca free life,Ron.

HI,
WELL CAN YOU HAVE IT REMOVED BEFORE THAT NODE SPREADS IT TO THE OTHERS? I WOULD WANT IT OUT ASAP. LOOK WHAT HAPPENED TO TONY SNOW THEY WATCHED AN AREA INSTEAD OF REMOVING IT WHEN IT WAS FIRST FOUND AND NOW HE IS STAGE 4. LYMPHNODES ARE LIKE KIDS IN A CANDY STORE ONCE SOMETHING GETS STARTED THEY ALL GET INTO IT AND QUICKLY. GOOD LUCK!

I agree with you, I want it out ASAP. But my local surgeon said the node is in a difficult area to get to, behind the lower stomach, near major blood vessels. So they're sending me to specialists in L.A., Cedar Sinai, to see if they can remove it. Meanwhile, I just want to get started with my chemo also, my DX was Mar. 11. My port is in, so lets get this party started!

HI Hawaii,
Im done with treatment so they aren't doing anything right now. I wait for scans. They think it might be from trauma of surgery. hopefully so. i don't know what they would do next if it is cancerous

You mean that you have finished chemo? Did they biopsy your node? How and when did yours show up? Mine was on a Pet/CT scan weeks after surgery.
