Actualy the ACS up until a few months ago had it at:

1 in 4 Chance for Women and
1 in 3 for Men

and NOW

They just updated to say:

1 in 3 for EVERYONE

so take 3 people and of them will get Cancer, kind of scary!
Blessings,

Most of my friends at the Colon Club have cancer or are cancer survivors.

Seriously, none of the other 5 people I work with has ever had a cancer dx, but my mom, dad, myself have all been dx with different cancers, and my sister had pre-cancerous polyps removed during her last colonoscopy. And we've all lead reasonably active and healthy lives.

To add a lighter (sort of) note here...

My buddy was telling me how he was having some bowel troubles and because of me went to see his doctor to get it handled, whatever it was. For whatever reason he started with a CT scan, which didn't show anything. He's soon going to get a colonoscopy as well. I just looked at him, and noticing he was looking worried I told him he doesn't have to worry about it being CRC because he was lucky enough to know me. So with me, he and 17 of his other buddies will get away Scott-free of CRC! (1/19 odds, get it?)

Hee hee.. That got a chuckle out of him, I told him he can thank me by making the kayak trailers he's promised to work on for the Troop :-)

This might not be the best logic but it helps me sleep at night 8) :
I was the 279th women ever documented for being dxd while pregnant(real bragging rights there  )
1.1% chance of being dxd w/ CRC under the age of 34. I am looking for my source on that...
I am so good at being in the tiny percentile that I should have no problem making that 18% of stage IV that survive 5yrs 8) I was originally told 3%, then 30%, now 18%, all I know for sure is it is too low!

That is scary, as B has been persistently anemic since ending treatment. Were you symptomatic, Joy?

Pearl girl: I didn't have any symptoms. During a routine visit with my primary care Doc last year it was noted that I had an elevated white cell count. Sent to a hemo/oncologist and diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic leukemia. Went to my hemo/oncologist on 7th August and it was noted that I was very anemia with a hemoglobin count of 8. He looked at the blood slides and noticed that there were "blast cells" i.e. leukemia in the bone marrow which is a sure sign of a more aggressive type of leukemia. I don't feel sick, just the usual aches pains, and neuropathy from the Colonrectal treatment.

PLEASE DO NOT PANIC............it is a known fact that Chemo/radiation can cause "secondary" cancers but the chances of this happening are "slim".

I was just one of the "unlucky" ones.

It's funny that you say that about your office! I work in an office with 12 people and out of that number, there have been 2 employees with breast cancer, 1 employee with skin cancer, children of the employees with colon cancer, kidney cancer, brain tumor, spouse of employee with throat cancer and father/father-in-law of the employees with colon cancer and melanoma and mother of employee with breast cancer. That's 10 cancers out of 12 people, which seems super high, doesn't it! However out of all that cancer, only 3 deaths from it. And those were people diagnosed a few years ago. So I think maybe we are winning against cancer - we find out about it earlier and we can survive it! :)
