Physical Activity Study in Southern New England

Postby Lucy@Healing Moves » Tue Apr 24, 2007 12:38 pm

Healing Moves research study is investigating the role of physical activity in regaining quality of life after colorectal cancer diagnosis and treatment. Men and women who have been diagnosed with Stage 0-III colorectal cancer and have completed treatment within the past 5 years are invited to participate. Volunteers must be in overall good health, over 18, and not participating in regular physical activity. Volunteers will be asked to meet with researchers 5 times over the course of a year, be willing to participate in a treadmill walk test, complete questionnaires and receive periodic phone calls. Please call Lucy at 401-793-8184 for further information. Thank you.

Healing Moves/Stage IV

Thanks for replying to my post Missjv.

To try to answer your question, our principal investigator is studying the role of exercise in cancer recovery and quality of life in colorectal cancer survivors. We are bound by strict eligibility criteria and since we are looking only at colorectal cancer at this time and stage IV survivors may have had cancer cells outside of the colon and rectum they would not be eligible.

Stage IV colorectal cancer is still colorectal cancer no matter where it is located. A secondary tumor in the liver that spread from a primary tumor in the colon is treated as colon cancer, not liver cancer. This is a common misconception and one that seems odd for someone looking to perform a serious study.

If your stated criteria are what you want, it might be a good idea if somebody actually looked at the rules of colon cancer staging. T4 indicates the cancer is outside the colon & there are subsets of both Stage II and Stage III that include T4 tumors. The N staging criteria (lymph nodes) also indicates if there is cancer outside the colon or rectum.

Just curious, are you guys actually licensed medical professionals?

hi,
i think they are not for real if they were they would know about the different stages and what they mean. if they do not know that stage 3 has moved beyond the colon area then their study is basically worthless. i don't get it.
