GOLF with a port

Postby KP » Sat Mar 17, 2007 4:03 pm

Does anyone have any input on golfing being hazardous to the port? My oncologist said don't take a full backswing - but I am not sure if its a true concern. Can a port really come out of the vein because of body movement?

I'd love to hear if anyone has experience or knowledge of limiting sports activity or specific movement because of their port...

Its time to get out an play!

Actually, I finally just had my port removed last week. I asked my dr about golf and the port (my fiance and I play religiously) I had no problem playing. BUT in stances were my arms were very close together like a short chip it would sort of bother me a little bit. Get out there and play.

Hi KP -

My nephew had his port put in 11/05. He was able to golf every weekend last summer and early Fall. Enjoy yourself!

I didnt golf, but I did play competitive power volleyball with a port in during chemo with no problems around the port at all. Have at it, keep golfing. My doc said to keep an eye on it and stop if need be. The exercize did me wonders. Good luck!

Thanks for the input..I am off to the driving range today.
Sometimes I just need some encouragement to be "normal!"

:o

And I will definitely use it to my advantage...with scores.
