Test Results

Postby weisssoccermom » Tue Mar 09, 2010 7:14 pm

Well I have been sufficiently worried these past few weeks. Haven't been sleeping well at all. So, last week I had my blood work. Initial work was just fine. HGB, HCT and RBC which were all down significantly last time (November) were right back up to and actual above the high normal levels (just barely). My bili was slightly elevated at 1.1 but I have GIlbert's Syndrome so that's of no concern. My CEA finally came back today at 1.2. That was the level that was really concerning me as it had spiked in November.....up from 0.4 to 1.5...without any change in the test (Bayer vs Roche). My GP and surgeon both felt it was probably due to the swine flu that I had in mid October. Anyway, it's heading back down and NOT up which is a good sign.

This morning I had my CT scan...chest, abdomen & pelvis and my fantastic GP just sent me an email with the results. NED still. No evidence of adenopathy, disease or anything but this pesky kidney stone that they've seen (but thankfully that hasn't moved or gotten bigger) since I was diagnosed almost 4 years ago. It sure is nice to have a doc who will gladly give you the results right away! All I had to wait was 6 hours - which truly isn't bad.

Friday I have a followup with my surgeon...colonoscopy was in November so this is just a quick exam. Next week I see the nurse practioner at my onc's office (he is back very part time after having been diagnosed with leukemia) and have my mammogram for good measure...might as well get everything done for the year and out of the way!

I do feel guilty for posting as many of you are going through such difficult times right now and my journey is nothing at all compared to yours. For whatever reason, I was so nervous and out of sorts about these tests but, being honest here, I am soooo relieved. Anyway, thanks for listening.

CRguy, please let us know when you get your results.

Why feel guilty, weisssoccermom? We LOVE to hear good news! It gives everyone hope and lets us know that this thing can be beat. I suspect that many people don't look at this board much after they're NED. I was asking my sister who had breast cancer almost 10 years ago if she ever looked at any breast cancer boards anymore, and she said no, that she wanted to get as far away from breast cancer as she could, other than follow-ups with her onc. I bet a lot of CC patients who beat the disease and keep coming up clear feel the same way. And I guess I can't blame them in a way. But PLEASE, we want to hear the good news as well as the bad and when we have bad news we want to know that there is still hope, so post all of your positive outcomes!

And congratulations on the wonderful news!

Good news is always good hear, especially when it's being reported by friends.

I think scanxiety is tough for all of us, regardless of our status. Hearing about positive results always cheers me up. I keep thinking--"I'm next!"

BTW, I went to the dentist today, after staying away for the year I was in treatment. Not such good news. Nothing a boatload of money won't fix, but that's little consolation. Thankfully, my kids (19 and 30) both have zero cavities, so it's good to know I'm that last one who has to bear this miserable load.

That is wonderful news Jaynee - and we accept all news here - good and bad. How depressing it would be if we only posted bad news? What sort of hope is there if all we hear is bad news? I've always said this and will repeat again for good measure - hope for one is hope for all. I am thrilled that you got good news and I appreciate you sharing.

That is fantastic news! I wish my onc would email me. I've been waiting since Fri and find out tomorrow what my scan shows. I love it when people post good news. It gives me hope that it could happen to me too! :D If I get any good news I AM going to post it too.

I won't find out from my onc until I see the nurse practioner next Thursday (the 18th). My GP is the one that emails me - she's just a wonderful doc and knows how much I want to know - and how quickly I want to know the results. She's the one who also emails me with my blood results as well. I wish all my docs were like her!

I needed to hear some good news! A mom of a 10 and 14 year old died on another forum today and two more are close to death. There's a 22 year old who is out of options. Good news is always welcome! Hoping to share my own good news in the coming weeks.

Please don't feel guilty about posting good things! I think I speak for all of us when I say we NEED to keep hearing the good stories so that the bad don't overwhelm us! And as far as your CEA goes...it really does sound just like normal month to month fluctuations....as long as it remains under 5. Take care and celebrate!!!
