best adult diapers

OK. I'm experiencing some major diarrhea and am not sure how to deal with it when out in the world. I've never had so many accidents and I've got a bathroom three feet away!!!

Has anyone done any comparison shopping on various brands of adult diapers to contain very watery diarrhea? I want to buy something but if you can steer me to the best brand it will save me a lot of anguish!

Thanks!

MC, I have permanent urinary incontinence because of the vesico-vaginal fistula.
I've tried the discount brands, but in my experience, Depends Super Plus (the brief pull-up style, not the ones that tape closed) are the most leak-proof. They're the ones I use overnight. You may also want to try a liner...I don't use the Depends liners, but Poise pads work pretty well and are less expensive.

My husband has been using them for quiet a while.
Depends super plus pull ups are the best!

Justsing,

I looked into this when I was planning for my ostomy reversal surgery. I never needed the diapers since I never experienced diarrhea (just lots and lots of BMs) but I've read that Walgreens house brand is among the best and a little cheaper than Depends. Also, if things calm down but you still need something down there, you might try a plain old sanitary napkin. That's what I've been relying on lately.

Best of luck,
Wendy

I'm afraid I can't help, but I can relate. I know for my last bowel prep for my colonoscopy, I couldn't get to the bathroom fast enough, so I had to wear Depends. Either that or stay on the toilet for 4 hours, but that would make my legs fall asleep! I used Depends and it "caught it", but about all it did was hold it there till I could get cleaned up. I went through about half a dozen Depends in a matter of hours. I worry about a time when diahhrea is more of an issue and what I'll do. Anyway, I wore the Depends that were like a pull up diaper. They had velcro sides (both sides), but were kind of like little diaper pants if that makes sense. I haven't tried any other brands as this was what I had in the closet from when I had my ileo take down and was worried about diahhrea. They worked for the immediate problem at hand.

You might consult a wound care nurse (who often double as ostomy nurses).

This is not the time to save a few cents (which is what it amounts to.) The elastic in the legs of Depends pull-up briefs is much sturdier than the Walgreens brand - and also better than Tena, and Carefree. Just my experience - but the Depends elastic is sturdy through activity, and lasts for several hours. If that elastic gaps, as it does in the less-expensive brands, you'll be sharing the contents of the diaper. Over-sharing is a bad thing. ;)

Thanks for all the prompt and helpful info! I knew I could count on yinz guys.

I have been using Always extra long sanitary napkins for a while now to catch the occasional 'gas plus" emissions, and they really work great for that. But until this round of Irinotecan clears and my white counts are back up, I'm WAY beyond their range of effectiveness!

Thanks again.

I was thinking about you so much this weekend.

Everyone I know who needs them gives Depends brief style the nod.

Depends are good, but I personally found Tena Serenity more comfortable and less bulky. Buy the smallest size that will fit you...too big and they bag, and the elastic is loose around the legs.

Good luck!
