Back in the big house!

Postby justsing » Sat Mar 06, 2010 10:12 am

Well, it was a race and the chemo won.

I had chemo last Thursday and I sailed through the weekend! No vomiting, hardly any side effects at all, actually. I was SO optimistic and looking forward to this week of spring break to eat and sleep and generally regain strength.

OH WELL.

By Tuesday, I was weak as a kitten and fearing that I was on a bad trajectory, but my bloodwork that the home care peeps draw weekly didn't look too bad.
On Wednesday, I called my doc and he brought me in to the office for some fluids and planned to give me a couple of units of blood on Friday.
On Thursday I spiked a fever and they admitted me. Even with Neulasta, my WBC had plummeted from 48K to 500 between Tuesday and Thursday and my blood cultures were growing things.

So here I am. Taking up a perfectly good stem cell transplant unit bed while I wait for things to turn around.

On the bright side, the bathroom is nice and close and I have been able to catch up on the episodes of Project Runway that I missed when I was home watching the Olympics.

Thanks for all the PM's wondering where I've been. Pretty much too weak to type, which is saying something!

You've been missed - I was just wondering last night how things were going - so glad to get an update but DARN - sorry to hear you're back in the hospital. I love your humor - the big house it is. Here's hoping for a quick turnaround.

MC,

I am so sorry that you have to be back in the hospital - and especially over spring break when it would have been a great time to catch up on sleep (we all now you can NOT sleep in the hospital!), rest, relax and just chill!

Brownbagger is right. Your attitude seems so good considering all that you've been through. You never complain and truly are an inspiration to all of us.

Hopefully you won't be in too long this time and they can figure out what's 'growing' in those darn cultures, treat you for it and allow you to be on your merry way.

You take care and enjoy those episodes of Project Runway! Try and get some rest in the hospital - yeah right - get stronger and get on home where you belong!

Oh Justsing - this absolutely sucks. I'm so sorry you are going through this. I'm still on your side though - and have confidence that the chemo will win this round - but not all of them. Although not in the hospital I'm trying to fight off some funky mouth stuff that is hopping from one side of my neck to the other. It's not kicking my butt the way chemo would, but it is keeping me down which is especially frustrating since we're having beautiful sunny and mild weather this week for a change - and I'd much rather be out in the garden than sitting in my recliner.

Sending warm thoughts your way.

I bet you have the staff there wondering why your new theme sone is "Jailhouse Rock." Do you think you'll luck up and get the same hospitalist who thought you were after drugs? If so, tell him we are all going to be after him if he didn't learn a major lesson from that faux pas.

Best wishes. Maybe you'll get time off for good behavior.
