rectal cancer

Postby michelediane » Sat Feb 24, 2007 6:09 pm

I was diagnosed with squamous cell rectal cancer 4 years ago. I finished 2 rounds of chemo and 32 sessions of radiation. I know this cancer is different then adenocarcinoma but I have alot of the same side effects from the treatment. I also had surgery after I finished treatment and I just wondered if many people in this group have had a similar type of cancer. My original tumor was 4 cms. and I had no node involvement.

Welcome!

So am I to assume you were stage II since there was no node involvement. Were your nodes tested before or after radiation?

I do not beleive I had your same type. Sounds strange that I do not know right? I was mis-diag at first and told I had ovarian cancer went through 3 rounds of Carbo/Taxol. Then went to 30 treatments of radiation and one round of Chemo, then surgery. I even went to Sloan Kettering for a second opinion. And on a scale of 1-10, 10 most difficult case, I was rated a 8, lucky me. But final diag was rectal cancer, but I am not sure what type.

I recall that user "KathiM" who posts on the acscsn board had squamous cell rectal cancer, so you might look at her web page there: go to http://www.acscsn.org/Webpages/search.html and search for "squamous" under type = colorectal cancer, then click on her name in the list. The link for her web page is: http://www.acscsn.org/webpages/view?obj ... 1123828012

It's pretty rare, I gather.
