Bowel Movements after surgery

Postby Natty » Wed Feb 10, 2010 5:36 am

Hi All

My bestfriend called me this morning and said he had at least three movements between yesterday afternoon, lastnight and this morning where all he is passing is yellow mucus is what eh said it is and has a bad smell as well as bad pains in the belly.. Is this normal or do you all think he should call his Doc..I told him he should ask the doctor. He said he has been eating things such granola, cream potatoes and lettuce along with chicken breast, soups and fruits such as bananas. I expalined to him his frequent visits to the bathroom before the above complaint is normal after removal of a portion of the colon because foods pass through faster with less length there. What should I tell him to do.

You're right - he should be talking to the doctor, not getting advice on an internet board ;-)

Your friend just had surgery, didn't he?

If he doesn't think it's normal, he needs to let his doc know. If this were happening to me, I might ask for advice, but only from my doc.

I think he should call the doctor with any concerns. How long ago was the surgery? I would not think eating granola and fruits yet are really good, as I had to follow no fiber diet for about two weeks after surgery and reintroduce foods slowly, but again, he needs to follow what his doctor says.

Call the Dr.
Not because he went 3 times, but because of the consistency of what came out.
I had Surgery 1 year ago and often go 2-3 times a day still.

Good Luck.

I did call the Doc myself and took him down along with a sample..the doc examine him and advice she would refer to the head of the team and call if need be, but one doc was actually hinting towards re-admission. Thanks all but I did go ahead and follow my instincts.

Yeah, definitely too soon for things like granola especially, and fruits like apples with tough skins should be avoided. Glad you talked to the doc and took a sample. Really pro-active and smart there. Good luck to you
