Hi everyone,

I have only used Magnesium Citrate, it is a 10 ounce bottle that tastes like lemon lime soda. You have to buy 3 and do one and a 1/2 the the night before and one and a 1/2 the morning of. You drink 3 - 8 ounce glasses of water with each one. It is very inexpensive and can be found in most CVS's and Walgreen's and I'm sure at most drug stores. The taste is great and the clean out has been good. Check with your surgeon. Good luck with your surgery. Pearl

Mag citrate is still available OTC.
In fact, these are two different places' prep handouts:

http://www.midatlanticgi.com/magnesiumcitrate.pdf
However, it also comes in flavors and you can't use the red one, only the lemon-lime one.
I was never allowed to prep with it for colonoscopy - only permitted to do that prep on the nights prior to surgery. After the phospho-prep and *lytely preps, the mag citrate prep was like a walk in the park. But the conclusion of this abstract might explain why some docs don't like people to use just mag citrate:

Fleet phospho soda (in all of its grotesque salty tastes; yes, I used several of them and am shivering at the memory right now...) is the one that was taken off the OTC market.

Thanks for the clarification, Gaelen. I may ask my surgeon about this, as this IS prep for surgery, not colonoscopy. I'll look up the links, too.

Thanks EVERYONE!

I now use Osmo Prep, that's the pills. To ensure that they can clean me out fully, I do an extra day of clear liquids beforehand. It helps to keep me hydrated for when I actually get to taking the pills, and keeps output evenly fluid. No cramps, constipation, nausea, or dizziness. I do start to dream of solid food after 2 days on liquids, but I use tasty soups and juices that I like, so it's not bad,and the outcome is sooo much more improved, it's well worth it.
