Anyone know much about Hirschprungs disease?

Postby willtowin » Wed Nov 18, 2009 1:42 pm

My nephew, almost 2, is being tested for this. He has had continuing problems w/ constipation, and x-ray shows backed up stool. Dr. said stool was everywhere, under ribs, everywhere. I have read about it online, but wondering if any clubbers have any personal experience. Treatment is a resection and possible ostomy. The colon issues in our family are quite varied but interesting. Me colon cancer, my son, anal fistuals from birth, and my nephew this.

Thanks for any info....and I know this isn't cancer related, so feel free to move it, close it if necessary, I won't be offended...

I believe you will find some information on the United Ostomy website. Go to forum for parents- I'm sure someone there can answer your questions.
Best of luck!

Ohhh, poor little guy:( That sounds like it would be painful. Having to have a resection and colostomy at such a young age, that's so sad. The good thing is, kids are very resiliant (sp?). I'll pray for him.

Have you had any genetic testing done?

I have a friend whose 6-month old son went through testing this summer (he didn't have it)... two good places I found for general information are:

http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddisease ... prungs_ez/

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency ... 001140.htm
