Same Surgeon -Different Disease for Wife:NED for me

Postby Cured » Sun Oct 18, 2009 10:14 pm

My wife is having a Colon Resection this week, but to fix her Diverticulitis. My old friend and Ace Surgeon will perform it arthroscopically. Since she was with me every step of the way with my Surgeries she knows what to expect. My turn to be bedside & sleep in the hospital (some).

Her caregiver times were not without her own trauma as she developed blood clots in her leg and was on Coumadin and Heperin for too long last year. All done with that thank goodness - but we will be really careful as she in in the hospital Bed and make sure they keep the cuffs on her legs.

She is 55 and I am 56; married for 35 years (next month) and always figured we would grow old together - JUST NOT THIS SOON!

Congratulations on your recent test results and best of luck to your wife in her upcoming surgery. This must be hard on you both - knowing what is involved. In retrospect, I think in my case, ignorance was bliss - I had no clue what to expect when my journey began - probably a good thing. Thankfully you have each other to get you through this - love is priceless.

Thanks Belle, Terry and Karen.
Now my wife hears that her potasium level is low, but they will do the surgery anyway. But she is taking Potassium supplements - especially while doing the Prep.

This morning I had my Port removed and, as fate would have it, the RN prepping me has a best family friend who is Stage 3 and only 34. She is anxious to give him my name and number so I can share with him what he is going to endure. And to hear from someone who came through in good shape. This I believe is what God has in store for me: helping others.

Of course I recommended the Colon Club! -Bill
