Xeloda Dosage?

Postby worth » Thu Nov 24, 2005 10:56 am

I just started on Xeloda. My Doc has prescribed 4 pills (500 mg) in the morning and 4 more at night. Thats 4000 mg a day for 14 days then 7 days off. Then I'll repeat the cycle.

I weigh 170 lbs. and I'm 5 11. Please let me know, just looking for reference points.

All my best,

Xeloda dosage

Postby Guest » Thu Nov 24, 2005 3:22 pm

Hi Worth
I am taking Xeloda 3x each day, 1500 mg for a total of 4500 mg each day for 5 days. My CEA is being monitored since in my case it is consistent with cancer growth. In the event that it increases, additional days and pills will be added for my treatment. I am 5 5 and 130 lbs.

Hi Worth,
I am on the same dosage and schedule as you are and almost the
same size ( 5'8"). The Doctor has a chart and decides the dosage
per your body mass. He can adjust it according to side effects
but should not go over 5,000 a day. I have had 3, 14 day cycles
and just started with side effects. It sounds as if your Doctor is
using the same method. Good luck to you.

Hi Worth,

My dosing was 3, 500 mg tab's twice a day for 14 days then 7 days off. I am 5ft 3 in and weigh in at 120. I took Xeloda for six months, just finishing in Sept. The good news.....my PET came back clean.

Xeloda was a lot more tolerable then the fulfox treatment I took first. Take extra good care of your feet as they may become very dry, and they may blister. Keep a good lotion handy and use it often.

Will be thinking about you and keeping you in my prayers,

Mary

Thank you for replying. I'm 1-week in on a three-week cycle (2 on, 1 off) for 6 months.

I occasionally vomit but that could be more a function of the oxaliplatin.

Fight.

Mary,
What stage are you and are you in remission? I'm curious because I just started taking Exoloda. Same dosage. I am stage IV and my cancer has mutated and no longer responds to chemo. Your message fills me with hope.

Hi Andrea,

I was diagnosed stage IIIc, which is a hair away from stage IV. I did fulfox for 4 months then had a severe allergic reaction. They let my body recover for about 2 months then I went on Xeloda. I was able to do the entire 6 months.

Take good care of your feet and hands during your Xeloda treatments. My feet got so dry and blistered a few times. My hands did the same just not as bad. I kept a cream handy at all times. If I got lazy it was noticeable immediatley.

I finished my treatments late September. First I did a CAT and it came back clean. Then they did the PET. I worried myself to death for two weeks waiting on the results. That too came back clean and I heard the word remission for the first time.

Good luck with your treatments Andrea. I will keep you in my prayers. If you need to talk let me know....I'll be there for you.

Xeloda

I am on my third treatment of Xeloda. The Onocologist lowered my dosage to 2x daily for a total of 2300 mg per day for 5 days every 2 weeks. There is still nausea which I encounter, but I've heard of an anti-nausea drug called Ondansatror-has anyone heard of it?

Andrea, Mary and Worth
Positive side afects I have experienced with Xeloda-
1. An increased level of energy after the treatment, as opposed to the 5-FU Fulfox4 treatment
2. Enlargement of the liver subsiding, feeling smaller

Take care

Thank you for the helpful advice. I started dealing with hand and foot syndrome when I was put on Erbitux. My hands are starting to heal but my feet are still peeling. I have noticed an increase in energy. YEAH!!! I'm a little nauseaus today but it may be do to a cold I have.

I am so happy to see the Xeloda subject active, thank you Worth!
I just had my first CAT scan and blood work after my first round
of treatment. It is a wonderful lift to the holidays to hear my tumors
have shrunk in my Liver and Lungs and my CEA went from 22 to 9.
The doctor lowered my dosage from 4,000 a day to 3,500 to help
reduce the hand and foot problems.

To Rochelle and Andrea, I take a Reglan pill at 8 am, I eat about
a half hour later and then take the Xeloda. I have only had a
little nausea and Reglan gets rid of it right away. At night I put
vaseline on my hands and sleep with cotton gloves on. This keeps
my hands soft and that helps the pain. I agree that the energy level
has increased on Xeloda, I can't believe it after being so tired on
the infusions I have had for over a year. I did have chronic diarrhea
after the 3rd cycle and that is also a factor for lowering my dosage.

Thanks to all of you for sharing and have a wonderful Holiday.
