39 degree C temp.....(102 F) just 2 days after sigmoidoscopy....

Postby Daniellabella » Fri May 25, 2018 6:54 pm

Hi,

My husband had a sigmoidoscopy on Wednesday. After the scope he was diagnosed with rectosigmoid cancer. He has an MRI Monday morning and we meet with theSurgeon on Tuesday.

I came home today to find him in bed under a thick, fleece blanket shivering g. We do not have air conditioning so it’s 28 degrees C (82 F) in our condo.

I’m worried there was a tear or something during the scope that’s causing this.

He doesn’t want to call the doctor, but I’m suspicious of the cause.

Did anyone else here have a high fever after a scope procedure?

eHe just might want to go the the ER just to be safe & sure.

This was many years ago, my father in law had a simple out patient procedure done, he went home, felt fine. Hours later he did not feel so good, assumed he had a big day and went to bed early. His daughter checked on him a few hrs later and called an ambulance.

Seems during the procedure, dr had nipped something, a slow bleed out. If she had not checked on him or called the ambulance, they suspected he probably would have died.

Did they give any home instructions? Anything to look for?

Hope he is doing better soon, He could have picked up a bug

Thanks for sharing that!

His temp is at 38.5 C (101.3 F), so I’m going to give it one more hour!

No home instructions were given so I’m not sure if this is normal....I suspect not.

So called the doctor, he said to come to the ER and husband refuses.

He even said that he won’t go to his colonoscopy appt either.

So I guess he’s planning on dying.

Ugh, so sorry you are not only dealing with the shock of learning he has cancer, but also his wanting to just not deal with it. Obviously we can’t know him the way you do, but perhaps it is just a short-term coping mechanism and he will indeed go for the colonoscopy after he has a few days to take it all in. As for going to the ER, I am guessing if he feels crappy enough he will go, but until then, nothing you can do. Sending you hugs and moral support across the internet. Escape to a good book or movie for a few hours when you can, this is that time frame when it is absolutely the most overwhelming mentally and any chance you can shake it, go for it. Keep us posted on what your husband ends up deciding.

Like you, your husband is going thru an emotional roller coaster and there will be times you will need to be patient with him. However, this is not one of those times.

Fact is this is his life and the sooner he accepts it, the better off he is going to be. Cancer is unfair, stubborn and relentless. It’s going to be tough and will take both of you digging in your heals to fight it.

I hope he is ok. It may not have anything to do with the procedure but it needs to be checked.
