Re: Question about necessity of CEA labwork

I would strongly argue for CEA bloods ...forever. Last year, nearly ten years after my original diagnosis my CEA started to rise. Two months later it had risen some more and I was sent for a PET scan. A tumour on my lung and 2 lymph nodes. NSC Lung Cancer. Without that CEA my NSCLC would have advanc...

It's more common than you think.

Re: Cancer Again: Not Colon?

Hi Bill I might be an old grouchy Aussie but "thinks" isn't good enough. The treatment for a lung cancer primary and metastasized colon cancer is quite different. I had an EBUS biopsy not the old school mediastinoscopy and those results determined that my NSCLC was a new primary. Best wish...

Re: Cancer Again: Not Colon

Bill I was Colon Stage 3a in 2007 and diagnosed with Stage 3A NSCLung Cancer last year. I use LUNGevity to read and occasionaly post. Tom Galli is a real stand-up guy on that site. At the time of diagnosis I was declared inoperable. I had a small 2.5cm tumour and 2 lymph nodes. After 4 rounds of Gem...

Re: CEA false positives?

I don't know about false positives but CEA is a very useful alarm for a range of cancers. Last year over an 8 month period my CEA went from 4 to 6.2. My onc at the time sent me off for a PET scan. Result after an EBUS biopsy was Stage 3A NSCLung Cancer. I am now in remission from this but reflect th...

Re: Is the day that cheno treatment ...

It depends on when you get the last " hit" of dexamethasone. Last year when I was doing chemo for NSCLC , I reluctantly agreed on 8 mg on infusion day . I had a bottle of dex orals ( 4 mg) which I was supposed to take on days 2 and 3. Instead of 8mg I took 4mg on day 2 and nothing on 3. It...

Re: For Stage III's: NED for how long now?

Ten days early but I'm claiming 11 years before this thread disappears to page 3.
Even better, I am now 4 months in remission for NSC Lung Cancer. From inoperable to remission.
Best wishes to all

Re: Scanxiety: Anyone else having testing now?

I hate to say it but I have never suffered from scanxiety. In fact now that I have another oncologist for my NSCLC I hit him up for a script for CEA testing since that was what set off the alarms 12 months ago. I would strongly urge others to continue with CEA testing long after the 5 byear mark. It...

Re: I'm busted

Hello Ron and Barbara As of the 12th March, after my 2nd CT scan post treatment, I am now in remission from NSC Lung Cancer. I have to remind myself that I am now free from 2 separate cancers. Colon left me with type 2 diabetes and lung ( or radiation ) has sapped my endurance. These I regard as sma...

Re: I'm busted

Well I'm still plodding along. My haemoglobin is back to normal so I'm not as tired as I had been. Back in August I treated myself to a new car. A BMW M240i. An insane little beast. Unfortunately on Oct 2nd I wrote it off and nearly did the same to myself. Ten days flat on my back with an L4 fractur...

Re: I'm busted

I finished my 30th radiation yesterday and my 6th Carbotaxol the previous week. All said it wasn't too bad. Not as bad as the Gemcitibine in the first treatment. Now I start the follow ups. The medical oncologist starts Monday next week and the radiation oncologist in mid-December ( after 3 months)....

Re: BREAKING: Nivolumab (Opdivo) APPROVED for MSI-High CRC

Yesterday I had an appointment with my medical Oncologist to discuss chemo concurrent with my radiation. This is for NSCLung Cancer and I took the opportunity to discuss Opdivo. It has been most successful with NSCLC ( hes has trialled it with 50 patients over the past 12 months with success). It's ...

Last week it was accepted onto the Pharmaceutical benefits Scheme for Lung ( my current hobby) and Breast Cancers in Australia.
It certainly appears versatile.

Re: looking for advice for Dad's mobility?

How are his haemoglobin levels ? I recently completed 4 rounds of GemCarb chemo for lung cancer. My haemoglobin levels were slightly above half the reference range and I was so tired . Over the last round of chemo and the week afterwards I received transfusions of 8 units of blood. Low haemoglobin l...

Re: I'm busted

There will be no 5th round of GemCarb. It isn't necessary. I will be going straight into Radiation + Carboplatin + Taxol. After the 4th round I had a PET scan. The primary is now smaller than 1 cm and the 2 lymph nodes are cancer free. An "excellent response". I had 4 units of blood last w...
