Re: Has anyone had pain from lung mets?

Sorry I don't have experience with your situation, but I remember during chemo I would have random pain, the worse was a super sharp pain in my side that would go away almost as fast as it came. But that only happened a few times. Be sure to report this right away, there's a chance its a blood clot....

I resumed folfox about two and a half weeks after my first resection. That surgery was laparoscopic. Removed 3 Mets then 3 days later PVE surgery.

Re: New - Daughter to Father with Stage 3B Colon Cancer

Hi Salma, The beginning is exactly the way you described , a rollercoaster of emotions, so hang in there it does get better. After settling into treatment things seem to calm down. As for chemo I can tell you personally without it I would not be alive today, Tell your dad to listen to his doctors an...

Re: Preparing a facts & to-do-list for "newcomers"?

This is a good idea, and will definitely be very helpful. Adding to #5, getting a second opinion at a major cancer center. And #4, a board certified colorectal surgeon

Re: Just how bad is it?

When I was diagnosed I had 17 tumors, 14 were on the right side of the liver 3 were on the left side the largest was 7 cm. When I first met with my liver surgeon I was told with a good response from chemo he could do the surgery. The plan was to first resect the left side tumors then PVE surgery all...

Have they mentioned doing a biopsy? I believe it's an easy procedure, they use a needle. My onc mentioned biopsying my liver mets at my first appt. but he never did saying it wasn't necessary.

Re: Its me....Again

Hang in there Nicole, you've come a long way so far and you're doing awesome. I had chemo sessions that were also much worse than previous ones but then the next would be a lot better. Be sure and hydrate the day before and stay hydrated during. You're having a really good response to chemo let that...

Re: Supporting my husband with a new DX

I lost 20 pounds, went from 150 to 129. I wasn't a big guy to begin with so 20 pounds was alot to lose. Most of my weight loss was from not eating right because of the tumor blockage. Once I started treatment the chemo killed the tumor , I actually put my weight back on during treatment. That's exce...

Re: Wedge resection vs. full lobe removal?

That sounds like a very good plan. Hopefully they are able to do the resection laparoscopically also. My first resection was laparoscopic, recovery went really good, except I was feeling to good and over did it, was a little to active and ended up in alot of pain for 3 days. I should have sat on my ...

Re: Coping with FOLFOX - first doses

For me the two days after disconnect I was wiped out, fatigue and nauseous. By the third day I started feeling better. I tried different things for the nausea, what worked the best was eating small snacks when I felt it coming on. Crackers and toast was good for me when I wanted something quick. It ...

Re: Wedge resection vs. full lobe removal?

The liver will regenerate, most likely even grow back to it's original size. I had over half my liver removed along with my gallbladder in July. I recovered quickly with no problems other than an incisional site infection. Either way it will be an open surgery and sounds like good advice about not k...

Re: Stage 4 - liver mets disappeared

Oncologist typically lean towards treatment. That is good advice your's gave you. Maybe an option might be to continue the maintenance chemo for at least a year or two and then choose to stop if the monitoring goes well. It's a fine balancing act with risk vs reward. Maybe talk with the oncologist a...

Re: Sleeping with: bag, heart monitor and pump accached

I was able to sleep on my right side and stomach with the port accessed. At first I wouldn't even try it, but after a few treatments I did, wasn't a problem at all no pain or discomfort . But I did use a very small throw pillow right beside the needle so there wasn't direct pressure.

Re: HAI pump without Dr. K at MSK

With a stage 4 cancer diagnosis you will qualify for SSI disability, they have a compassionate allowance program that streamlines the process. It will take a few months before checks start rolling in so if this is something that will work for you start the process soon. Also does you employer offer ...
