Re: STAGE IV RC GUYS AND GALS

I feel like there a 2 groups of oncologists. One group is willing to be proactive with a positive Signatera result by initiating chemotherapy. Then, you have the other group who is unwilling to treat based solely on Signatera results but wants confirmation with positive CT scans. I agree with the d...

Re: STAGE IV RC GUYS AND GALS

So, I completed 10 rounds of FOLFIRI. Chest CT was clear. Signatera was positive again. So, that's no bueno. My oncologist doesn't seem to think that more chemo right now will benefit me. So it's watch and wait for the cancer to come back. Oncologist seems to think that I will have regrowth of canc...

Re: Chance of cancer coming back over time

To support, my oncologist was very clear that the recurrence % rates only apply from day 0 (first day of NED), and every year that passes without recurrence reduces the actual future recurrence risk (all else being equal of course). If you think about 5-year recurrence rates, what are the odds of so...

Re: Cross eyed and confused with vitamin D

Are you talking about D2 vs D3? If so I’ve heard D3 (cholecalciferol) is better - I take 10,000 IU around 3-4 times a week.

Re: How do you guys deal with anxiety about the situation?

Another idea if you don't mind paying a small amount -- Kamini Desai has an app (I think it might only be available in the Apple store - not sure) called IAM Yoga Nidra. It was recommended to me by the Director of a Mind~Body~Spirit program at my local cancer center, and I found it very helpful whe...

Re: How do you guys deal with anxiety about the situation?

To help with practicalities, if you go see your GP they can write you a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) and a referral to a psychologist (you can choose, or they can suggest one). This part is free. The MHCP entitles you to 10 discounted therapy sessions per year (the discount is $93 off whatever the...

Re: How do you guys deal with anxiety about the situation?

Hi Pagola, have you considered seeing a counsellor or therapist? I did during my treatment and they have been an enormous help. You’ve gone through quite a lot at a young age, and I think professional support would make a big difference.

Re: No biopsy taken for local recurrence

Have you had a scope yet? Given the bowel is hard to image and bloods are imprecise, that would usually be the standard way of diagnosing a local recurrence. With this procedure they can also easily take biopsies and confirm in the lab a match with your existing tumour cells.

Yes a few times - they used to be very long (about 90 min), but they seem to have them down to about 40 min. now. You often don’t need to go fully into the machine - usually feet-first. They’ll put in an IV cannula, and place a large plastic pad firmly over your right abdomen after you lie flat on y...

Re: 5FU and folic acid

Yeah, Australia isn’t quite as bad as the US thankfully. Here it’s only added by law to wheat flour to be used for bread making - unless it’s certified organic (in which case it may still be added by choice). But that does mean it can find its way into lots of other things like pasta etc too through...
