Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

I am a (now retired) physician with rectal cancer diagnosed in 2014 and also had a cCR to neoadjuvant FOLFOX followed by chemoradiation. I spent a lot of time researching w/w and my oncologist would have supported me if I had opted out of surgery, but in the end I made my decision based on raw emoti...

Re: Cea

Nope. I would be delighted with a CEA of 1.6. Some people run higher due to other reasons (smoking, arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, etc). It will s also not a useful Mather for everyone, and even when it is, the trend matters more than the actual number.

Re: Preparing for 1st FOLFOX infusion on Monday - what to eat?

I kept it simple for my first few cycles (scrambled eggs, applesauce) but never experienced bad nausea. I did feel better with food in my stomach so snacked frequently. After a few cycles my sense of taste diminished and I started to crave Thai and Indian curry! The only thing that actually made me ...

Re: Neuropathy

I have been dealing with worsening neuropathy for about a year, and recently have noted similar increase in "shock" like sensations in my hands when my neck is bent forward. I also have a history of psoriatic arthritis of the spine, so I wonder if that is exacerbating the pain of the neuro...

Re: Prospective Phase II US study: complete clinical respond

My onc discussed this study with me in mid December, and we elected to start with 8 cycles of neoadjuvant folfox then restage (3b rectal) and decide then about proceeding directly to surgery, vs additional chemo or chemorad first. We have only briefly chatted about the no surgery route; I am not sure...

Re: Psoriasis and cancer

Psoriatic arthritis here....worsening nail pitting and joint pain in the last two years, responded well to humira. Now on FOLFOX plus Celebrex so joints are ok, skin does well with decadron but then flares prior to each infusion Yes I think my arthritis and fatigue and nail pitting are an immunologi...

Re: Aloxi to prevent chemo nausea -- is it enough?

Good luck with Aloxi after three cycles. Mild queasiness at times responds well so far to eating a light snack as well as crystallized ginger, or doses of compazine/Ativan. Hope that your experience is like mine.

Re: cancer and relationships

I hate to say this but I feel this terrible disease has made us closer than ever. She told me that first weekend:"I married you for better or worse, in sickness and in health; you are not fighting this, we are fighting this". I love more now than ever, and she is my rock, and totally suppo...

Re: Medical marijuana and older kids

I am up front, and because I ingest rather than inhale, there is not really any euphoric high, just sleepiness and a general sense of well being. I use it to aid with queasiness in the evening and to assist with sleeping. The kids understand that this just another medication and not a long term life...

Re: Stop Oxaliplatin at Round Eight or Round Nine?

I am having 8 cycles of neoadjuvant folfox for t3n1m0 rectal ca. My oncologist does not feel there is enough additional benefit to justify the additional toxicity for neoadjuvant chemo (before surgery). I would not want permanent neuropathy in my fingers

Re: Anyone had counselling after diagnosis ???

I am only one month into this nightmare, stage3b, and thought I was doing well, but it really doesn't take much to set me off down into that deep chasm.
