Re: MSKCC

I also live in MN, and traveled to MSK for surgery, and I also have an HAI pump, so I traveled monthly for that while I was having that treatment. I had never been to NYC prior to going to MSK, and I was not comfortable staying far from the hospital or clinic. There are a lot of posters who are from...

I have the HAI pump. My insurance considers MSK to be in-network so everything was covered as in network. I live in MN and have BCBS of MN for insurance. The pump, surgery, all of it was covered.

Re: ugh, back at the big house - fluid collection

Yuck, I am so sorry! I hope they get your pain relieved and out of the big house ASAP. I didn't have an infection, but my liver leaked ascites for more than 2 months after my resection. Since I didn't have a fever I was not readmitted, but they monitored the fluid to make sure it was decreasing. The...

Re: No Surgery

The doctors at Mayo did not feel I was a good candidate for surgery. The doctors at MSK in New York felt differently. There is nothing to be lost by getting another opinion. If you can swing it, I highly recommend MSK, they are willing to take on the more complicated liver resections. Best wishes.

Voxx, I know you place a high value on QOL, but did your doctor suggest adding the vectibix or Erbitux to the Folfiri, rather than just trying monotherapy? I was on Folfox alone, and was having growth, we added the vectibix and my one tumor is not visible on scan after only 3 treatments. Vectibix si...

Re: I Admit I Am Jealous and Angry And Missing Belle (NW Girl)

Julie, you know I follow your blog, and I have deep respect for the way you acknowledge the dark side of stage IV cancer. I feel the same jealousy, and strongly dislike the feeling, yet that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I am preparing for my 3rd surgery, supposedly "curative intent," but...

Re: It's back again: 12mm lymph node in pelvis, what are the options?

I had a pelvic tumor show up in November. There was some disagreement between onc/surgeon/radiologist as to whether it was peritoneal met or a node. Because it was isolated, it was surgically removed. It was a peritoneal met. There are a lot of nodes in the pelvic region, so I suppose there is room ...

Re: I feel like I am in the Twilight Zone....HIPEC

Hi, I got your pm! I believe it stays in the outbox until the recipient logs in and reads the message... :) And yes, search "cimetidine," in the search box. There is a lot of study data on it that shows it can help prevent new metastasis if taken prior to and after surgery. I will add a di...

Re: I feel like I am in the Twilight Zone....HIPEC

It sounds like you have as much of a handle on understanding this stuff as is really possible. It seems like for all of the different areas of metastasis, peritoneal spread is the least understood, and the hardest to control. I am kind of in the same boat as you. I have had peritoneal involvement si...

Re: Things we look forward to

My oldest daughter starts kindergarten in the fall. That's the big milestone in my mind. When I was diagnosed, it didn't seem likely I would see either of my girls start school. Now, I am pretty confident I will see that day. I do kind of think in terms of small milestones. When each one passes, I f...

Re: Liver Resection tomorrow at MSKCC

That is incredible, awesome news!!! I am so happy for you! Dr D resected my supposedly unresectable liver 14 months ago and it remains clear to this day... You are in the BEST hands, I am pulling for you!
