CEA still elevated but no change; thoughts?

Back in Feb my CEA jumped 0.7 (from 4.2) to 4.9. While not a big jump, my high base level makes me nervous. I missed my next bloods and finally had them done again a week ago and my CEA is still 4.9. If my CEA has not increased in 5 months, is it safe to assume the 0.7 elevation is probably not canc...

Re: Confused About Follow-up Protocol After Resection

I'd go for the more intensive monitoring option, personally. Mine was:

3-monthly CEA indefinitely until further notice
Colonoscopy at 1.5 years
Annual scans at 1, 2, 3 years

Re: Question for those who know about peri mets

Hey buddy, I'm not writing this to scare you but since you asked, with this most recent recurrence my cea was trending up and then I had a nagging ache in my side when it showed up on CT. I hope yours is nothing serious. Cheers. Thinking of you. I wanted any relevant replies, so yours is greatly ap...

Re: Question for those who know about peri mets

Little update already:

Got my latest CEA test: 4.9
This is exactly the same as my previous one, which was taken about 6 months ago.

I have an appointment with my cancer surgeon on August 9th to discuss the pains and schedule a CT.

Re: Question for those who know about peri mets

Thanks to you all for taking the time to reply to me. Based on what I've read, and the fact this has been causing me anxiety for several months now, I've decided it's time to demand closer investigation. I shall skip my GP and contact my specialist team and if necessary exaggerate the pain to make t...

Re: O/T ... don't know if I should share this ?????

To quote my facebook last weekend: "Goddamn poke-zombies are cluttering my normally serene early Saturday morning landscape. I'm a big proponent of exercise and getting outdoors, but I can't help but wonder if perhaps society as a whole would be better off if all you pokemon go aficionados just...

Re: Question for those who know about peri mets

We've had to worry about peri mets recurring, along with the other sites. Peri imaging, hmmm. Pain? Well too many things going on back then, but not much in any case. So what do we do? Bloodwork. These folks have more of a clue what lab values to monitor but don't directly establish prognostic thre...

Re: Question for those who know about peri mets

Well Jay good to see you're still around. While I haven't had peritoneal mets myself I have never run into anyone who has had pain associated with peri mets. That makes sense as the peritoneum is just the membrane that lines the abdominal cavity. I would imagine any pain caused by them would be ass...

Question for those who know about peri mets

Simple question: Did you experience pain prior to diagnosis, and if so what kind/level? A couple of months ago I had bad lower right abdo pain which coincided with constipation. Dr said it was likely scar tissue/adhesions and it faded after a couple weeks. Pain is back again as of 8 days ago, but a ...

Re: Oily fish may reduce risk of death from bowel cancer

...Are you saying recent studies have shown FO supplements are superior to whole fish? No. There could be other unstudied factors. However, two supplement advantages are possible : First, the natural C16 PIFA o-3 component that is known to conflict with Folfox has been removed, vs whatever PIFA was...

Re: Oily fish may reduce risk of death from bowel cancer

The newspaper miscites the original paper on supplements. This situation seems a commonplace for media dependent on certain major advertisers. The original paper favorably cited both supplement references and favorable trends for supplements in the study itself, just not enough use and statiscal po...

Re: Mental Breakdown Today

Hang in there, Teresa. I felt every second of every day on chemo was hell on earth, and from two weeks in I constantly threatened to quit treatment, so I can absolutely relate to what you're going through. I can't say anything to make you feel physically better, but these are the things I used to he...

Re: New here

I struggled to get more than 3 hours per night when I finished chemo. Now a couple of years later I'm averaging maybe 6 hours and feel relatively functional.

Things which helped me:
Meditation / breathing techniques.
Blackout curtains.
Earplugs (big help).
Exercise.
