My dads journey is over

On January 8th, my father passed with with his family by his side. We were able to keep him at home until the 5th, so we feel we honored his wish to stay home as long as possible. Dad got a nasty bladder infection a few months ago which started his rapid decline. He spent a week in hospital until hi...

Re: There are people here who need urgent psych help,

I've been keeping up on the board, but not commenting a lot lately, been dealing with some issues with my dad. I have to agree with Vilca and BS on this one. It's getting old! We all, caregivers and patients alike, are dealing with a lot of things emotionally! Newbies will not know this, but what ha...

Re: My 87 year old mother diagnose with colorectal tumor

So glad the hear the appointment went well and your mom has made her own decision. Sometimes that is easier!! Maia has made a very good point, her tumor might be very slow growing. Low dosages might just do the trick for her, worth a look into for sure. My dad has been palliative since the beginning...

Re: My 87 year old mother diagnose with colorectal tumor

Thank you Maia! I do remember your posts about your friend. Way to young!! I will know more tomorrow after we talk to the doctor. My sister was the one that talked to him when he called Friday night to tell us and she really cant remember everything that he said as she was in shock. I will check int...

Re: O/T diversion ... The Voice Fall 2016 !

It's a tough call this time around. I do like what team Adam has to offer this time around. I did not care for Darby's style of music, so was not sad to see her go this week. I kind of like Sundace as well though. Time will tell I guess. I am partial to the country type singers though, which isnt fa...

Re: My 87 year old mother diagnose with colorectal tumor

I can give you a bit of insight. My dad was 79 when he was first diagnosed. He had colon, lung and liver involvement at the time. For 79, he was in very good shape. The oncologist actually changed his treatment plan after actually meeting him and decided to fight aggressively. We started with folfir...

I hope your mom has her pain under control. I will keep you both in my prayers. I know how hard it is to watch a parent suffer.

So good to hear from you Frenchie! I missed this when you originally posted. I hope you have your bowel pain under control and are still enjoying your walks. That election is creeping up fast and sure is entertaining for those of us not involved! Take care!

Re: A rant and in need of advice/hope

If you are suspecting a UTI and waiting results, maybe you could give her some pure cranberry juice in the mean time. That us supposed to help. My daughter just had bladder and kidney infection. She had cramps and a lot of pain. She also has nausea from the pain one morning. I feel your frustration,...

Re: Interesting case study on Vitamin D (and other supplements) in pancreatic cancer

My dads general pratictioner wanted him to take the vitamin D3 in excessive amounts, but the article he showed us also required vitamin K which I believe dad couldnt have on blood thinners. He swore by it and was upset when we said he wasnt going to do it.

Re: Rant: Sometimes doctors just won't listen

We have to fill out this two page chart. Dads last appt we sat down with him at home prior to going to discuss what we would say on it from how he was feeling to what we were noticing. His response was, I am not sure why we fill it out, they don't read it!!! We disagreed with him but soon found out ...

Re: People don't get it

So sorry you are feeling this way. Sometimes people just dont get it and it is hard to understand. We have similar experiences with my brothers when it comes to my dads cancer. It is very hard not to be angry, but I am trying to let it go. This is the place to come and vent because we have all had t...

Re: High blood pressure

I can't help you but am interested to see how she does. This was what our oncologist mentioned might be my dads next choice. I am torn because I am not sure he can handle it. Our oncologist is meeting with a panel of specialists from around our province next week and will present my dads case. I ask...

Re: OT but cancer related

So sorry about your uncle. Cancer really does suck. I agree, there has to be a better way. I am not sure if scanning everyone periodically would cost more money. You look at the amount of money spent on treatments, scans, surgeries, hospitaization etc etc of people fighting this damn disease. If cau...
