Re: Symptom management at home

Hey RObin, We asked DH's oncologist the same question...why not drain? The response was to see if Vectabix does its job (so far it's been doing something because his belly is shrinking and the liver function tests are improving) and then maybe do some diurectics later. I've also read that the pocke...

Re: Symptom management at home

I just don't understand why they don't drain the fluid!

Once drained she would be able to use a girdle.

Re: Symptom management at home

I have ascites in my abdomen. They can drain it to relieve the pressure. Right now I'm controlling how much is manufactured by the cancer by wearing a girdle 24/7. Even sleeping in it. It was suggested by my surgeon. It truly does help. I still get uncomfortable when I eat too much but I can snack ...

Re: Hand and foot syndrome

I've found that the really painful areas are the ones where it looks like a blister has popped and that tender new skin has no protection. Bandaids on just those parts, it's right where the skin folds on itself in the thumb and forefinger area, help tremendously. It also seems to heal that skin fast...

Re: Please! Read me...

The pain will subside. The doctor should have told him not to raise his arms for a few days. Not sure how long it was before I could. It took me a while to feel ok with the port. Sideways hugs, patting it clean when showering... Now it is like it has always been there. I give full hugs, no hesitatio...

Re: Diverticulitis surgery recovery

Were you told to eat a BRAT diet? https://www.healthline.com/health/brat-diet You want to give your intestines a chance to heal and wake up fully. My surgeon had told me to eat the non healthy foods until the swelling from surgery goes away. After that, flip flop the diet. 5 weeks isn't that terribl...

Re: Exercise with a port

It took a while for me to get used to the port. I've had mine for a year now and it doesn't bother me. I can do anything I used to do at this point.

Give it more healing time.

Re: Surgeon has me feeling horrible

I don't know why he would say that chemo won't shrink tumors. It shrunk mine. Granted I got a couple more spring up but that was kind of predicted because of my particular mutation. I'm looking into HIPEC to hopefully get me into a better place Is the surgeon a specialist in colon cancer? You need t...
