Re: Rectal Cancer: Habr-Gama Watch and Wait Strategy to Avoid Surgery

It's part of the folfox package, neuropathy, low WBC, low Lukocytes. So much for the package, lol. But it is small price to pay, when treatment is successful. skb you are doing well, I could have worked till about 2nd round of folfox, after that, it would have been difficult, symptoms were just over...

skb, it's nice to see that you doing well. During folfox I managed to gain 6,7 kg's, all that is gone since chemo is finished. Going to gym 3-4 times/week, socializing, went on vacation down to Varadero, that felt good, long sandy beach, warm ocean water. My Hemoglobin dropped to 115 after chemo fin...

Total neoadjuvant therapy or TNT is the term for chemo/rad than chemo. It looks like this is becoming standard approach: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamaoncology/article-abstract/2675911?utm_source=TWITTER&utm_medium=social_&utm_term=1435018935&utm_content=content_engagement%7cartic...

Re: Colon rectal cancer found during routine colonoscopy

Radiation/chemotherapy is standard approach to shrink cancer, and maybe completely erase it. Chemotherapy combined with radiation is usually in form of pills called xeloda. You will not get full dose, as you would if you do only chemotherapy. I did it, it was fairly easy for me, hardlly any symptoms...

Wow, what a story.

Re: Xeloda vs. 5FU

Pump gets disconected in clinic, I had it on Tuesday, off on Thursday, somthing like 46 hrs after start. It would be hard for you to disconnect it unless you have health proffesional to do it. Yours is gonna be disconected on Saturday. Sunday you will feel it, more than any other day, side effects o...

Re: Xeloda vs. 5FU

For the purpose of working during chemo, pump for 2 days might be interfiring with daily abilities to perform the job. You will need pic line or port. PIC lines sometimes get infected, about 40%. I had redness around pic line, managed to resolve it with some heavy duty antibiotic cream. The question...

Re: Rectal Cancer - Standard of Care Approach or Neoadjuvant Chemo approach???

I already see great insights here and welcome others - Thanks! I started with 25 rounds of chemo/rad, plan was surgery after that than folfox. They checked me 2 weeks after chemo/rad,had hard time finding the spot, thanks to ink mark, they found it, was cCR at that time. It’s been year since than. ...

Interesting study on early stage 1 rectal cancer, as most studies are done on higher stages. Stage 1 is most of the time treated surgically only. Early stage 1 (T1-T2,N0) , when treated with chemo/rad, cCR is 40-50%. Page 10/46 https://www2.sahlgrenska.se/upload/SU/HTA-centrum/HTA-rapporter/HTA-rapp...

You welcome afaust. I hardly had any symptoms from chemo/rad, no pain, no redness, used time between to build my immune system, went to gym, worked between, my family doc suggested herpes vaccine, said that my immune system will be so weak during folfox, he is seen people covered in herpes, that wor...

Re: Rectal Cancer - Standard of Care Approach or Neoadjuvant Chemo approach???

This study is finishing this year, we will have results at the end of year. There is study published in 2016, chemo/rad plus folfox 6 rounds, pCR went from 18% just chemo/rad to 38% with these new approach. That is huge difference. Current trial is with 8 rounds of folfox, before or after chemo/rad....

Re: Rectal Cancer - Standard of Care Approach or Neoadjuvant Chemo approach???

"Delivering the systemic chemotherapy and the chemoradiation therapy before surgery could have several potential advantages for the patient. First, it will treat circulating tumor cells, which we believe are responsible for metastatic disease, earlier in the process. Second, it will increase th...
