Open surgery wound 4 months later

Anyone else have issues with their body spitting out the disolveable stitches before they dissolved and causing open wounds which blister and bleed? I have been seeing my surgeon once per week for him to look at it and cauterize it. He has packed it and just put me on oral antibiotics in case there ...

Re: Cause of colon cancer discovered

Yes, I'm sure a study with you triplets would be enlightening. How interesting. Yes, I do agree the Diet Coke consumption could not have helped, and may have contributed, and the only reason I stopped cold turkey a few years ago was because my daughters kept begging me to stop because they were conv...

Re: Cause of colon cancer discovered

I have been a vegetarian for 40 years. I have exercised a lot most of my life. The genetic testing results just came back and no Lynch - no markers. Three years ago, I stopped drinking Diet Coke, but before I stopped drinking them, I drank two every day. Maybe that contributed? I drank wine moderate...

Re: Mass in cecum / liver mets

I had open colorectal cancer surgery five weeks ago and it was not as bad as I had expected. I was in hospital 9 days..... 7 days to start having bowel movement and next day white blood count elevated... on 9th day it was normal. I didn't have anyone taking care of me at home and have been very mobi...

Re: Open Colorectal cancer surgery 11/09/17

NHMike, Wow, you are doing great. Now, you make me want to increase my steps with a challenge for myself! Did your abs feel sore when you reached 28,000 steps? I trained my abs extremely hard prior to surgery, but I find that I can feel stress in them if I walk longer than an hour at a time. I pace ...

Re: Colorectal cancer surgery 11/09/17- still in hospital 11/15/17

OStomaMia, great article about early screening age in France. I am telling my daughters to get colonoscopies before age 40, especially now that their mother has had colon cancer. I am now 3 weeks post op as of tomorrow and healing well. I walk a lot off and on throughout the day and am getting betwe...

NH Mike and TXLiz, thank you for the well wishes the morning of surgery last week. I appreciate it. I'm so pleased that I am alive and doing well. Much better outcome than expected.

Re: Colorectal cancer surgery 11/09/17- still in hospital 11/15/17

Today it is Friday, November 17, 2017 here in California. I am still in the hospital but I think I will get to go home today. My intestines woke up yesterday, however, my white blood count was elevated and we did not why. Today my white blood count is in normal range and I am pretty sure when the do...

Re: Colorectal cancer surgery 11/09/17- still in hospital 11/15/17

Also I had prepared myself for a colostomy since part of the tumor was in the upper rectum, and I signed all the paperwork giving him permission to give me one, but he was able to get a clear margin and connnect the remaining rectum to the remaining colon. Altogether 7 inches were removed.

Re: Colorectal cancer surgery 11/09/17- still in hospital 11/15/17

No external stitches. Glue. Scar from mid pubic area (much lower than I imagined) and above belly button a couple of inches. If we can post photos here and anyone would like to see the surgery scar, I would be fine posting it just tell me how to do it It's not pretty but I i'm alive so I don't care.

Colorectal cancer surgery 11/09/17- still in hospital 11/15/17

The open colorectal surgery went much better than expected and the details of their findings are in my signature. I was told prior to surgery I would be a stage II or stage III. They are now saying Stage 1. What a physical and emotional roller coaster. I am not going to sugarcoat it. The surgery is ...

Re: Having open colorectal surgery 11/09/2017

Everyone's posts are so helpful. NHMike, I also keep track of my steps and calories with a Fitbit. Since diagnosis my steps have gone way down which I know is depression, plus my stomach just bothers me so much. Normally I get about 15,000 steps per day and the last couple weeks I've only been getti...

Re: Another colonoscopy before surgery?

Is your surgery still scheduled for Nov 9? If so, we are both having our surgery on the same day. Mine is scheduled for 9 AM. What time is yours? My tumor started out in the lower colon and has spread a little tiny bit in the rectal area so that is why I did not have radiation first. The surgeon see...

Re: Having open colorectal surgery 11/09/2017

Lee, any suggestions on what you consumed on the liquid diet and the low residue diet? Food is not all that important to me so I will have no problem at all following that. Would love to hear what you consumed the most on both diets. Also did you lose much weight during that time you were in the hos...
