Re: received port

It sounds strange, but you will like having a port. We see so many people in the infusion room who have problems with veins and they have to call over the "extra experienced nurse" to find a way to make it work. The port is boom, done. DH had treatment Monday afternoon and I removed needle...

Re: Wives of husbands with Stage IV Colon Freaking Cancer

Consult scheduled! We are on for Sept 8 at Georgetown to discuss other options such as proton, spheres, surgery (???), etc. Now I just have to get 4 CT scans on CD from the current hospital. DH wants to tell current onc at next appointment that we are going for a consult, I'm not in favor of it yet....

Re: 2nd Chemo treatment

Yeah pretty much. We got PA first appointment and then oncologist after that. We were delayed 2 hours with first treatment last year because they "lost" us in the system and didn't know we were sitting in the waiting room after being downstairs to see the doctor first. And Tuesday we were ...

Re: ANY Pros/Cons Vitamin D3 ?

DH started extra D in June after we read the article that came out at ASCO. Onc said he hadn't read it but didn't have a problem with us trying. DH takes 2 vit D capsules in the afternoon with a snack (4000 total) and then his regular multi vitamin with dinner has 1000 more. He also walks every day ...

Re: 5-fu pump disconnect question

We had a home health care nurse come in the first 3 times to disconnect DH to avoid the 75 minute drive each way to the hospital. She taught me how and came once more to watch. So far so good. The hospital sends us home with a heparin and a saline syringe. We have a large container for the leftover ...

Re: Wives of husbands with Stage IV Colon Freaking Cancer

Hi All, FIrst off, I see I have PMs and I can read them and am learning how to reply so be patient with me! Second, yesterday dr said we motor on for 2-4 months with the Fol+Avastian and then CT again. He said the 1mm lung thingys can't concern anyone at this point. Still praying for us all. I notic...

Re: Wives of husbands with Stage IV Colon Freaking Cancer

Hello Ladies, Long time no talk to! CT scan this morning and had results within an hour. Oncologist apt on Tuesday to discuss but basically liver is still stable, tiny shrinkage for a few tumors, tiny growth of another. Couple of lung thingys showed growth of 1 mm on a few again which is concerning ...

Re: Fluid on the lung???

My DH had very bad pleural effusions and very badly swollen legs last year after surgery. It took two draws in early December to get the lungs clear and 2 months for the leg swelling to go down. So far, it has not returned even tho' one of the surgeons said it probably would. I stuffed him full of p...

Re: Portacath insertion, what to expect?

My DH was awake for it, they gave him some "happy" drugs but it didn't make him relax so be sure to ask for more if you are not happy! There wasn't real pain but it's stressful being in an OR and looking around at everything (I was in there for a while until they made me leave). You don't ...

Re: Sexual implications of colon resection--can we talk?

JEP, none that I noticed in 11 weeks. We had an early discussion about sex after a colostomy and his opinion was "not happening" and mine was "let me know when you're ready" then I let the subject drop. The colostomy still drives a lot of his temperment these days, more so than t...

Re: Sexual implications of colon resection--can we talk?

JEP, so you all are about 8 weeks out from surgery? My Dh wasn't interested until about 11 weeks after surgery. He had the surgical incision, sepsis, and lung fluid which took time to clear up, the colostomy bag to learn, and starting chemo. But one winter morning...surprise..still not as regular ac...

Re: Wives of husbands with Stage IV Colon Freaking Cancer

Ladies, thank you for all your support. We had a good talk Friday night and it appears he is more at peace with this than I am. He will continue to fight but understands the odds. He does like hearing about the research and people who have beaten the odds. His big concern with hospice is not ever wa...

Re: Wives of husbands with Stage IV Colon Freaking Cancer

Need some ideas on what's going on here and if there's anything I can do... Physically DH is doing great, very few chemo side effects and all manageable (still hates his stoma butt that's another story). Lately, he has been saying things about not making it more than another 2 years. He bought a new...

Re: Fatigue Advice

Here's another vote for walking! A buddy at his work told my DH that helped him thru chemo and DH started. Just down to the mailbox to start 7 months ago after surgery and now several miles a day. Sunshine helps too. We take a walk before dinner and after dinner together and see all the neighborhood...

Re: advice to help my DH heal (?)

While he wasn't excited about it, DH drank a brand called Premier Protein. Said it was tons better than Ensure. Different flavors too. Comes in a squarish box/bottle. Gatorade makes one called Recover Chocolate Peanut Butter Shake that tasted like a milk shake if chilled. Comes in an orange bottle. ...
