A little encouragement, I hope

My brother Steve, who is three years older than me, was diagnosed in 2012 with adrenal cancer. Adrenal cancer is very aggressive and very, very rare. It has a very poor prognosis. Steve had surgery and treatments to remove the tumor. He lives in a rural area of PA with a pretty good hospital that ha...

Re: Is bowel regularity possible after reversal?

Thanks for the replies. I'm sad to hear that some of you are still having major problems and happy that some have found a way to make things manageable.

I hope more members will come on to share their routine and what works for them.

Re: Ileostomy revesal from rectal cancer

It's hard to tell you what to expect because everyone's experience is different. I didn't use a bedpan and was able to make it to the toilet every time in the hospital. I brought a Depends with me to wear home from the hospital just in case, but ended up not putting it on and I was fine. Like I said...

Re: Introduction

Hi, Brian, and welcome to the board. It'll be great to hear from someone in the Prospect trial. Glad to hear you are doing well after your infusion. For many people, including me, the toughest days were after the 5FU pump came off, so days 4 and 5. Just be sure to call your doctor for any meds you n...

Re: Surveillance

Once I couldn't do Folfox anymore, I had appointments with my oncologist every three months where he would do blood tests (including CEA) and give me a physical exam. As for CT scans--had one at diagnosis in April 2015, one after my surgery September 2015, one in April of 2016, another last Septembe...

Re: Two Weeks In and Nervous

I didn't have any problems with low WBC counts during radiation/Xeloda, but I did with my infusion of Folfox after surgery. I know they are careful to keep a close eye on all your blood levels throughout the various treatments and will adjust dosages or delay a treatment if necessary. I hope your le...

Re: OT- Severe Sinus Infeciton

I'm so sorry to hear this. Sinus infections are awful! I've been having a lot of problems with my sinuses this spring, too, but nothing like you're going through. Just waking up with headaches every day despite running a humidifier at night. I'm sure you already know this, but sitting in the bathroo...

Is bowel regularity possible after reversal?

I've read enough on here to know that a lot of members have made bathroom visits manageable after ileostomy reversal by using Metamucil, Citrucel, Benefiber, Heather's Tummy, Lomotil, Immodium, or some combination of the above along with diet. And I know some use enemas to clean out once a day and b...

An Oldie but a Goodie to make you smile

I was sorting through some old emails I had filed away and came across one from 2011. An acquaintance who has maybe sent me a total of four emails over the years sent it to me and it seems strangely ironic, considering the diagnosis that came a few years later, the colonoscopies I've had and will ha...

Re: Post reversal complications - need advice

I haven't experienced any of the issues your wife is dealing with, so I don't have any suggestions or advice, but I just wanted to say that I'm sorry you both are having such an awful time of it and I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. I've had to deal with drains multiple times over the ...

Re: Scan tomorrow

I don't have any experience with VATS to share, but just wanted to wish you luck with your scan. And say that I hope you'll share your Yellowstone experience with us as I hope to spend some time there, too, possibly next summer (2018).

Re: Two years ago today

Hello, Basil! It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm glad I made you smile. I was offered the Prospect trial but it was very unproven then. My doctors wanted me to do the trial to avoid radiation damage. I had long discussions with members here on the board while trying to decide. Eventually after weighin...
