Re: Cancer, it never leaves

My old oncologist was perfectly happy to see me while I could be bothered turning up for appointments.
The CEA test can detect more cancers than bowel.
In the end it may ultimately save my life.

Re: Lung Cancer. Your thoughts please.

I'm afraid I'm not very well informed at the moment. I'm still in "trust the oncologist " mode. I had the impression that Keytruda was a Stage 4 treatment. The GemCarb chemo is a deceptive critter. Folfox is in your face from Day 1.Gemcarb lulls you into a false sense of security, up to th...

Re: I'm busted

Yesterday was my 10th Colon Cancer anniversary. Still free of that cancer and still doing battle with NSCLung Cancer. During the 3rd round of GemCarb I found out what low red blood cells are like. No breath and very tired. I've now done week 1 of my initial 4th cycle of chemo which has now been exte...

Re: I'm busted

Lots of activity since my last post. I've found a lung cancer home that I'm comfortable with. I've now completed 2 cycles of GemCarb with a third commencing on Wednesday. No side affects at all. I had a Ct scan on the 18th for review by the Lung Panel. last Tuesday. I had a follow up with my onc tod...

Re: I'm busted

Thanks all for the well wishes. Today is day 1 of my first cycle of GemCarb. I had a meeting with my new Oncologist on Monday and he certainly is thorough. Basicly he explained why he has chosen this path, taking into account the amount of chemo that I have already had, and the state of my kidneys. ...

Re: I'm busted

A fair bit has happened since my post. I've had an EBUS biopsy , and got preliminary results within 48 hours. Didn't read so good. Today I had a Lung Clinic Panel meeting. I will have a more extensive appointment with my new Oncologist on Easter Monday. The punchline is that I will do 3 months of Ge...

Re: dodged one

Hi Ron It's 6 months wait in the public system still Ron. It doesn't seem to have improved in 9 years. I had my last C. , June 2015. My colon was a battlefield. I'll be back in 2018 ( provided I'm still drawing breath). I had my first ever contact with the public system today at the Lung Clinic ( th...

Re: Need advice from long time survivors re when to stop scans

If all follow up stopped at the 5 year mark I'd really be in trouble now. My onc has always been sparing with CT scans but when my CEA bumped up in January he re-ordered another blood test for 2 months time. When the CEA had gone up again , without hesitation he ordered a PET. I got the results on F...

Re: Creatinine and CEA/worried

Perhaps she is Type 2 diabetic. 18% of former chemo patients are. I was diagnosed as a T2 in 2011 with an A1C of 9.1. It now runs at 5.6-5.8 .Even so I have high creatinine levels and an eGFR of around 45 ( but stable). I had diagnostic imaging and a kidney biopsy performed before my specialist conc...

Re: folfox not working....

My partner has now done 40 cycles of chemo. The big gains on Folfox+ Avastin were in the first 4 cycles. After 22 cycles of that chemo she was switched to Folfiri + Erbitux . Much the same happened there. At the moment it is fairly stable with only a slight increases in CEA. Strewth she's tough. I w...

Re: Things I wish our onco would have explained better or up front

"chemo" doesn"t cause diabetes.
Dexmethasone may. 18% of former patents will be diabetics.
12 cycles of chemo will reduce your kidney function by 20%.

Re: Diabetes Question

Sounds like reactive hypoglycaemia to me.
The best solution is to cut back on the carbs to cut back on the wild swings
