Re: Those on pain meds...

Skypup, it is easier to prevent pain, or treat it when it is mild, then to wait for it to be severe, because then it does not work so well and you need to take an awful lot. Consider a certain threshold serum level of your pain killer. As long as it is above that level the medication is effective. O...

Re: OT: Wilko Johnson (British Guitarrist) in not dead yet s

I like the guy and wish him well. But really?? It took them this long to decide that his pancreatic cancer was of the neuroendocrine type (same as Steve Jobs). And meanwhile the tumour has grown from walnut to football size? That is disgraceful. It seems to me that at the time of the initial diagnos...

Re: dying alone or not

Thanks for pointing out the origin of this annalexandria. So why the lawyer present? Need you ask? I'll need all the help I can get when I meet St Peter. Been a tough winter CRguy. My February scan showed significant growth of my lung tumours, and I had a good going radiation pneumonitis. Looking ba...

dying alone or not

Sometimes after a treatment session my thoughts turn dark.
Most of us do not wish to die alone. I myself will want my attorney to be present.

But some of us will be alone. The following new development in end of life care may be of interest.

Re: Personalised Treatment

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but I am extremely sceptical about this approach. No doubt it is interesting to decipher the genome of cancer tissue, no doubt it will add a little to our understanding, and perhaps it may even help, up to a point, to rationalize treatment. But it will not lead to any...

Re: These Days, I Try to Buy the Best

Ha! I am the other way BB. I've never been a materialistic kind of person, but since my recurrence I find it difficult, for obvious reasons, to justify personal expenses. My computer is a 2004 Ebay purchase, I just took my trusted 1992 volvo 240 to the knacker's yard, after cannibalizing it for my d...

Re: medicare and oncologists

Thank you all for the replies. So my understanding is that: 1. Medicare covers the over-65, cancer is more common in that age group, hence oncologists get a proportionally large amount of income from medicare. I get that. 2. Is it true that all or most oncologists provide chemo in their offices? Thi...

medicare and oncologists

Medicare has just released data detailing payments to US physicians. The average payment to physicians from medicare was $77,000 per year. Ophthalmologists received the highest payments. Second are oncologists at $360,000 per year. This is not a "horrible doctors" post. I am genuinely inte...

Re: My spiritual cancer

I am glad you are without disease, and if you believe that "loving yourself" did that for you, you are free to say so. Just as others are free to disagree. The problem with your post, well intentioned though it undoubtedly is, is that it implies that the rest of us are, well, deficient in ...

"Localized hypothermia treatments" - I'm assuming you mean hyperthermia? If you have a way of providing hyperthermia to your lungs I'd love to know more.

Re: Great Article

I got cancer because back in 1999 I slept with two men, on the same day, on Good Friday, and one was a Jew. I think you are on to something here. Here is a marvellous opportunity for forum members to add to our knowledge of CRC. I propose a new thread where members can post their sexual history as ...

Re: News on the 'other' anti PD-L1: Nivolumab. Immunotherapy

One of the problems with the PD-L1 drugs is that they will affect any tissue that manifests this particular antigen. The side effects therefore can be severe and even life threatening. Nothing is easy here. We are learning more, but I suspect there is a long way to go.

Re: Cannabis oil

I have been using cannabis oil for over a year now. I use a vaporizer. I find it particularly helpful as an appetite stimulator. I was diagnosed with a radiation pneumonitis a month or so ago. Severe cough, shortness of breath and fatigue. I declined steroids and went back to my cannabis oil. It has...
