Re: New Member here on the forum

Unreal diarrhea began on day 14 of cycle 2; Lomotil did not help; finally mixed Lomotil with Norco for a five hour relief. Oncologist is pushing back cycle 3 one week - to begin May 10 rather than May 3, and will reduce the Xeloda back down to 2000 mg from 2500. This was a big issue toward the end o...

Re: New Member here on the forum

Flour - Could not find a flour without folic acid in stores - Red Mill has it, the stuff at the organic health food store has it. I don't know about the King Arthur. Then, in my own pantry I found a bag of Trader Joe's White whole wheat flour (sounds like a typo, but that's what it is) and voila! No...

Re: New Member here on the forum

Folic acid/folate: Had a terrible time with nausea Monday and decided to research folic acid .... https://www.globalhealingcenter.com/natural-health/folic-acid-foods/ --- it's in everything (!) if you have a good healthy diet. So it's not enough apparently to eliminate fortified breads, cereals - it...

Yes - she actually said she's never seen - I am going to try to copy some of the remarks here and take into the nurse and onco. Made me feel ... weird about reporting. I don't really know where to strike a balance between reporting side effects and being a complainer ...

Re: New Member here on the forum

Okay, Round Two: Port made a huge positive difference not dealing with arm pain. Woot! :D Side effects came on stronger, faster - all during the last 30 minutes of infusion. The nurse slowed down the infusion from the start to moderate, based on the last round, but to no avail. I was there from ten ...

Re: SO FRUSTRATED! - I hate these 'mega' medical groups

Had the same issue with Dignity Health here. First, I am wondering if it may be a HIPPA issue when you have divulge, repeatedly, intricacies of your med condition to someone who just basically schedules and has no medical understanding. The physician I was able to ultimately speak with suggested I t...

Here are a couple articles - mostly about managing adverse symptoms, and not answering your question re: modifying the radiation schedule. Hope he can get to some relief soon!

Re: Partial radiation

I will look for some articles for you - my radiologist was very emphatic about avoiding milk products - he said the radiation creates a lactose intolerance - this could be adding to his discomfort. Also, I am wondering if he isn't cruising into a malnourishment situation which could get worse. I can...

Be sure he is communicating with his doctors - I needed to go on more powerful (RX) painkillers, a prescription strength anti-diarrheal. This stuff was not offered to me until I complained the OTC stuff was insufficient. Be sure he is adequately hydrating - mix in Pedialyte or GatorAde into his wate...

Got the port installed today, yay! Anticipate an easier time next round. Using the Ativan for sleep - is making a huge difference. Friend sent me a link for the Vog mask for the next round - sensitivity to cold - she was considering due to the Sonoma fires last year - imagine it might be nice for wa...

Re: New Diagnosis/Overwhelmed

The folks here really know what they are talking about! I came here late - when diagnosed my doctors told me they didn't need to do the MRI/ultrasounds and so did not do an initial staging - they told me I didn't need an initial staging; that staging is inaccurate; that the surgery would be the same...

Re: How important is NCI designated comprehensive cancer center

Check the stats on your surgeon as well ... I think Health Grades ranks the volume of colorectal cancer surgeries done by a particular surgeon.
