Re: CEA

. Is your explanation a summary of one or more scientific articles and if so, could you be so kind to let me know your sources? I would love to read more about this topic. Hyfija, I usually keep track of my sources of information and will look around to see where I got this information. I think I f...

Re: Will there ever be a cure for cancer!!

Cancer isn't a single disease with one origin and so no "cure" is possible. In my opinion, this complexity makes it unlikely that any company would ever withhold a drug or novel therapy on the grounds that it is too effective. In the future, I suspect biological profiling to be very import...

Re: HIPEC in Canada?

Princess Margaret hospital in Toronto now has a surgeon who performs HIPEC surgery in their Peritoneal Membrane Malignancy Clinic. I heard about him through my surgeon who works there. Perhaps you can get a referral there? See http://www.theprincessmargaret.ca/en/healthcareprofessionals/programdepar...

Jane, sorry to hear about the scary spike. Given your history, I think it is likely the reading itself is suspect but I certainly understand your anxiety!

Hoping for the best,

Re: CEA

Hi David, in response to: I'm curious about the CEA, because I don't really know what it means, or what the gauge is. A number of years ago I too wondered about the CEA, and looked up information on its biology and use in cancer diagnostics. This is what I found: CEA is a fairly large macromolecule ...

Re: How do you monitor something you can't see?

Hello, sorry to hear about the mucinous characteristics and carcinomatosis. Quite a while back there was a discussion about the best way to monitor the peritoneum, and jdepp found the following article: The study below makes a forceful case for MR over Pet & CT imaging. There may be oncs out the...

And it goes to show that scientists are not all necessarily boring geeks.

Hey! Why would you ever think that?

Best of luck tomorrow Jane! From what I've heard, recovery from the reversal surgery isn't usually too bad.

Enjoy your new old plumbing.

Re: Port out today all went well

Nick, glad to hear it went smoothly. I got my port out after 2.5 years over a year ago and the surgery left a big scar and the region is still sensitive when pressured. There was a lot of internal scarring and the doctor had to dig around and detach fibrous tissue from the port. I hope you heal bett...

Re: obamacare?

I may be mistaken, but I think that hospitals in Ontario are not allowed to provide services beyond what the Provincial insurance covers. In this scenario, private insurance does not help improve the quality of care and is not involved in the equation. I think there is some leeway for non-standard t...

Re: obamacare?

I guess this is a little off-topic, but an interesting question related to rationing and reforming health care is, if you view health care as a basic societal right, do you think it is ethical for one group of people with a lot of privileges to have access to better health care than another? Should ...

Re: obamacare?

I was reading a year or two ago about a cost analysis being done to determine health care decisions. I believe this was included in the Obamacare regulations. This is always the case, whether the decision is made by insurance companies or by medical boards. There are finite resources that must be a...

Dr. google says: http://drbenkim.com/ph-body-blood-foods-acid-alkaline.htm Excerpt: The primary purpose of this article is to offer information that explains why I believe that you don't need to take one or more nutritional supplements or "alkalized water" for the sole purpose of alkalizin...

Re: An Article on pH Foods for Cancer Patients

isn't irinotican an alkalizing agent?? Does it change the ph in your blood to kill cancer cells?? No. It acts by blocking the unwinding of DNA by the enzyme topoisomerase. This blocks the cell division process and causes the cell to undergo cell death. While it is true that the local "microenv...
