Re: DON'T WANT TO DO OXALIPLATIN !!!!

GreenMonkey, My wife seems to be one of those folks that hasn't had a real hard time with Oxaliplatin. You never know but it may turn out you are the same. She has done 5 treatments so far, 3 with Avastin, and starts the 6th next Tuesday. Her neuropathy has been very minor so far and goes away prett...

Re: Jowl Pain

Ya- My wife describes it as being sort of like how it feels if you bite into something sour. So far for her it hasn't been too painful, more an annoyance. She had her 5th round of FolFox (3rd with Avastin) and has been tolerating it well. Her pump was disconnected this afternoon, and she decided to d...

Re: October Exercise Thread

Yesterday morning for the first time since before my wife's surgery for her resection, the beginning of July, she decided to do a Run/Walk program on the treadmill. I think it was 5 miles she said. She wants to do a 5 K run with her sister and nieces in November, and she is using a workout schedule ...

Re: Concerned 16yr Old Please Help

The colonoscopy is the correct first step. It's about the best way to see what's going on inside without doing major surgery. I know it can be scary but don't let that, your young age or the ich factor detour you from having this procedure. Too many don't get diagnosed at an early enough stage. My w...

Re: Cimetidine

I presently have my wife take about 800mg per day. 4 times 200 mgs spread across 24 hours. Its convenient and spread out well. The recommended dose on the box is only 400mg per day. The popular press papers I have read vary between 1200 mg per day and 400 mg per day depending on the study. The worse...

Re: Where to begin?

I thought I would keep my thoughts and our progress or lack there of in one thread. Maybe as a journal I don't know..... We met with my wife's oncologist today to go over progress. Three weeks ago after her third round of FolFox, and the first with Avastin added they ran a CEA at the end of the off ...

Re: FALSE POSITIVE vs FALSE NEGATIVE from MRI results

Voxx66 is correct - have the same set of pictures looked at even by the same radiologist on two different days and they might see things slightly differently. These poor folks look at perhaps thousands of pictures a day looking sometimes for very subtle differences between shots and between scans da...

Re: Erbitux vs. Avastin

Ha - I see now. Didn't know about your HAI option. Yes certainly Avastin would put off the surgery, until it's effects on wound healing had subsided. Wish my wife had that HAI option, but with mets to liver spleen and lung I don't believe anyone would offer that to her. :( We meet with the oncologis...

Re: Erbitux vs. Avastin

Voxx66 - have a good healthy discussion with your oncologist about Avastin use. I hope my misgivings and discussion above has not directly informed your decision. Avastin has helped many although perhaps only temporarily and unless the side effects are bad for you I wouldn't dismiss it entirely. Aft...

Re: Exercise and lung mets

I don't know if this will help anyone or not with regards to lung capacity. But I have a feeling that it may. Singing or perhaps playing a wind instrument might help build lung capacity by exercising and developing ones diaphragm and breathing. When I was young I was a skinny little runt. In Jr high...

Re: O/T - Maybe but may be applicable to some of us

I think the plumbers were not getting enough work, so they convinced the manufactures to come up with this product. I am not at all surprised. When I was a kid our nutty next door neighbor use to flush paper towels down her toilet all the time, and it would back up. Both our homes were owned by the ...

Re: BEER AND CHEMO

Voxx66, I didn't start drinking beer until I was in my early 40's. I drank liquor and wine, but found that beer upset my stomach long before I had drank enough to make me intoxicated. In college I tried it, and even tried Guiness which at the time I thought tasted god awful. Now its one of my favori...

Re: Erbitux vs. Avastin

With these two drugs their mechanisms of action are very different. Erbitux is a first gen anti-EGFr chimeric (mouse/human) monoclonal antibody (MAB), and Avastin is a first gen anti-VEGF humanized monoclonal antibody (2004 for mCRC when used with FolFox) Its particular use is for solid tumors to ch...

Re: I hate my port!

ptfly - My wife had hers done with just a local and had no issues, and very little pain. She was fully awake for the procedure. Hasn't had any problems with it at the moment, and uses the Lidocane cream prior to having it accessed.

Re: Exercise and recurrance risk

I don't know why they don't do a study on exercise with stage IV survivors. I do believe it helps us. I am very active and I am an 8 year stage IV survivor so I believe exercise has been a contributing factor to my survival. I am giving the ketogenic diet a shot. There was a tiny spot on my liver b...
