Re: Anyone with Stage IVa just do Xelolda or 5-fu?

Dh was on 5-FU/Leu/Avastin only since June and the CT scan showed 1 cm increases in the liver tumors across the board. We are adding back OX on Nov 14th and switching to Xeloda at that point too. Hoping to get another 3-6 months on this before neuropathy kicks in again. Cold drinks were an issue and...

Re: Ct scans

We've had 2 oncologists tell us that radiologists are hyper about mentioning things, almost like they are trying to one-up the last guy. I wonder how much of it is lawsuit driven: if they don't mention it then there's a potential lawsuit if it is something later. We've also been told that growing 1m...

Re: Curious about "maintenance"

DH hopes to go on Xeloda next week, wish he could have back in June when he discontinued the OX. If the CT scan shows nothing major on Monday, then it's maintenance Xeloda for as long as he can. Dr. did not give an option about the Avastin, he's getting it every 3 weeks. If there is some growth, I e...

Re: vacation, travel, whatever...just do it!

My wife and I are of the same kind, we travel as much as we can now. The only thing to keep in mind is, with stage 4, there aren’t any travel insurance companies that will cover you. It’s usually fine when traveling within the country but if you are out of the country or on a cruise if something ha...

vacation, travel, whatever...just do it!

At the risk of sounding like a Nike ad, JUST DO IT! DH and I are back from a week in Florida which included a day at Disney Springs, a day a Universal City Walk, and a day at Kennedy Space Center. Two hours via plane each way, driving around, staying in a hotel, eating out, shopping: all handled wit...

Re: Anyone with Stage IVa just do Xelolda or 5-fu?

Opposite side here... DH did 6 rounds via port of FOLFOX + Avastin and then dropped the OX. Had a great response, really reduced one of the liver mets. He's been on just the 5FU + Avastin since June and CEA numbers are climbing (see profile below). Next CT scan is Oct 30 and we will decide at that p...

Nuts, CEA up to 26 now. Guessing CT scan is next on list and possibly adding back the OX.

Anyone got any GOOD news to share?

Re: Inserting Port or not

DH had his port put in before first treatment. We are so glad! There is never any struggle to insert a needle for chemo. He comes home with his 5fu bottle and I pull the needle in 2 days. Very easy to do...just get some training and keep everything super sanitary.

Re: One piece or two piece appliance?

DH was introduced to a 1 piece system in the hospital last fall. Made him miserable emptying it. So he switched to a 2 piece, Coloplast Sensura Mio Click, just to see if it works better. Much better!!! Unclick the pouch, drop in special ziploc, click on new pouch. No liners. He normally replaces the...

Re: Wives of husbands with Stage IV Colon Freaking Cancer

Hey all, Consult with another university hospital today. Good information but no "magic" of course. My biggest beef is that we got the scans and he didn't even look at them, just read some reports. He was also not complimentary of the famous Sleen/NIH trial, had some patients of his that w...

Re: NEW-Need some positivity here.

I know you want this out...I wanted my husband's out ASAP. But choose your surgeon and your hospital carefully. We took the first appointment at the first hospital and I wish we would have waited for the smaller, better hospital. Surgeon operated at both.

Re: Wives of husbands with Stage IV Colon Freaking Cancer

NUTS! Consult Appointment postponed to Sept 22 as oncologist got called to something and we can't get in next week. CEA slightly up so we are not happy campers. Next meeting with current oncologist is Oct 3 so will discuss findings then. Expect he will order usual 3 month CT scan. No word from Sarah...

Re: CEA during chemo

DH started at 114, went down, flared up, and went down to 11 after 5 months of FOLFOX. Took off the Oxy and it's been steadily increasing by a couple a points a month over the past 4 months and now he's back up to 21 as of Monday so we're a little concerned. Can removing Oxy really make that much of...

Re: CT scan on Day 1 of Folfox Infusion...

DH had a CT scan at 11 and FOLFOX at 2 on his first day. Glad he did because they discovered lung effusion which was drained and he felt so much better.
