Stage IV, what happens after surgery?

I was previously stage 3 and after surgery did 11 rounds of folfox. I was NED for 2 yrs and then a met showed up on my liver. I had surgery to remove the met last week. My oncologist said I would not have to do chemo. Is that normal? I was offered a clinical trial, but that depends on if I have CTDN...

Isn’t it ironic that the chemo used to treat colon cancer basically forces you to drink warm/hot drinks? Lol

Re: Made it almost 2 years, now it’s back. Any MD Anderson advice?

Thanks benben. I’m still kinda in shock about it all. I’ve never felt better in my adult life than I do now, so how can i be in this situation? I’m still working on getting into md Anderson. My insurance requires referrals from my PCP for everything so that’s been fun to deal with. Hopefully they wi...

Made it almost 2 years, now it’s back. Any MD Anderson advice?

I haven’t been here in a while because honestly I have been feeling great and hardly even thought about cancer anymore. I was first diagnosed in March 2017 as stage 3b. Surgery and chemo all went fine and I was cancer free ever since. I went to my PCP for a regular physical last year and he noticed ...

Re: PET Scan results?

That’s the hope, and I think that’s why my onc wanted to wait a bit before rushing to surgery when for all he knows it could be benign.

Re: PET Scan results?

Still in limbo basically. Mri showed a 4-5mm mass on the liver, but it only showed up on one of the slides. Onc said it’s too small to biopsy at this point so he wanted to wait for 6 weeks and do another mri to see if there have been any changes. That happens at the end of October so still have a fe...

SUV?

do any of you know what a high number is for SUV on a pet scan? I found my results online today and it said the spot on my liver had an suv max of 3.3. I understand that suv stands for standardized uptake values but I can’t seem to find anything about the number. What’s a bad number to have? Is 3.3 ...

Re: With apologies to the Bare Naked Ladies, but...

One to two months after chemo is when my neuropathy was the worst, and while it might not completely go away, it will get better. It got so bad my wife had to button my shirts and tie my shoes. Driving was fun because I couldn’t feel the gas or break pedals. I’m almost a year out from my last chemo ...

Re: PET Scan results?

Thanks gravelyguy, that’s good to know. Now I just gotta worry about being in the mri tube for an hour. I’m not worried about the tight spaces, but it never fails when I have to keep super still, I’ll get an itch on my face or have to sneeze. Then the fact that I gotta keep my arms behind my head fo...

Re: PET Scan results?

I did keto too. It was great and easy to do. I wasn’t hardcore with it though. I eliminated breads and anything with added sugar. Upped my vegetable intake and my meats were only organic cagefree and grass fed.I made sure I was in ketosis with the strips but I never did the macros or anything.

Re: PET Scan results?

Hey benben, I had one pet scan before chemo. It showed some inflamed lymph nodes where my surgery was but that’s it. My ast and alt were both in normal ranges but my ggt was 148 when normal is 15-73 and my alkaline phosphatase was 161 when normal is 38-126. I didn’t even ask what my cea was at the l...

PET Scan results?

I recently went to the doctor for a physical and he noticed my liver numbers were high. He spoke with my oncologist and they agreed I should have a pet scan. I received a call today from the nurse who said the results of the pet showed a faint spot on my liver but the ct didn’t show anything. The nu...

Re: Genetic Testing?

GINA only protects against discrimination in health insurance and employment and that’s all, it does not protect against discrimination for life insurance. This was explained to me by my oncologist as well and there are a ton of articles about it you can find on the Internet. I already had a life in...
