Re: Advice about finding a good oncologist?

I'm going to offer a slightly different take on the advice you've been given. If it were me, I would start at MD Anderson and find an onc I was comfortable with there, but have the infusions done locally, as long as the supervising Oncologist was getting all medical records. In my case, I live about...

Re: Question Regarding Oxaliplatin

For those on Oxi how long until you get any side effects? My husband had his first treatment last week and so far so good. Only side effect was sweating. I've heard that side effects build up over time. Is this true? I can only speak for myself and my reactions, but I had the cold insensitivity in ...

Possible I suppose, I haven't read anything on that though. If I ever hit powerball and can fund some studies....it's an interesting thought.

Re: Just Curious - an unscientific survey

I'm a firm believer that abdominal surgery stirs up cells if they are already present. I've never thought about gastric bypass. I had gallbladder surgery about 5 years before Stage 4 Colon Cancer was found. Most mets were in the liver. At the time of the gallbladder surgery my liver appeared normal...

Re: Just Curious - an unscientific survey

I hope not my sister is getting that procedure next month. Kenny, It was a very worthwhile procedure for me on a number of levels. One of the drawbacks is the malabsorption of certain vitamins and minerals (hence the post GBP need for certain supplements). Kinda leads into my other thought of the c...

Just Curious - an unscientific survey

I have been reading (which usually gets me in trouble, btw) that there appears to be evidence that there is increased risk of CRC in gastric bypass (GBP) patients. Personally I had GBP in June 2007 and was diagnosed with colon cancer in September 2013. Just wondering how many of us here (or your lov...

Re: Unemployed and Diagnosed

When is the appropriate time to disclose my diagnosis with a potential employer? I think the answer to that depends on your staging and your treatment status at the time you are talking to the potential employer. Technically, you don't ever have to tell them. And if you are NED or not in treatment,...

Re: Unemployed and Diagnosed

I'll add both my welcome to the board and condolences that you have to be here in the first place. To echo other's thoughts, I wouldn't worry about work until you get staged, a treatment plan in place and see how you do with the treatment. The social worker is a good place to start to see what aid, ...

Re: Participate in research on the discussion of cost of care!

They way it was presented may not have been the best, (they also don't mention anything about the QOL of the additional 2 months or about the 7 or 9 month periods) but the basic premise is an important one though.... How much would you be willing to pay for an additional 2-months of life expectancy?...

Re: Options when resection is not an option.

Jenniferskc, There were two options provided to me recently. I don;t know that this represents the full list of options, just what was presented to me and I'm sure others will chime in. The first was radioembolization (SIRT or Sir Spheres) where radioactive beads are placed into the liver, and the o...

Re: Need help understanding MRI report

While no one can say what is correct for you, I can say that if I were in your situation, I would at least want a second opinion from a major US Cancer Center. This may be possible by sending your records and scans along without actually having to travel. While I am not familiar with the clinical tr...

Re: AdenoCarcinoma Caecum, Right Hemicolectomy

Hi karan.ck, Sorry to hear your friend is going through this. Unfortunately there are too many variables involved to know specifically things like how long chemo would improve life. And as for what to expect with side effects, it depends on which front-line chemo protocol is selected. These are, how...

Hi Christmas826, You certainly have been through the wringer. I'm assuming you are in the United States, and I'm most certainly not an expert in this field, but you might want to look into Social Security Disability and with that I believe there may be an opportunity for early entry into Medicare. P...
