Not sure what you mean, if they light up on the PET scan is that pretty much always cancer?

Re: blood work and metastisic

I had a PET scan on 09-10-2014 that had lymph nodes light up from armpits down to pelvic, they are only doing a biopsy on the armpit one though for now. The PET scan also showed something on the lung but after a chest x-ray and the pulmonologist reviewing the PET scan and x-ray he determined there w...

blood work and metastisic

Hello, Can your blood work be basically normal (well my normal) and still have had rectal cancer spread to lymph nodes? I am having a biopsy of the lymph nodes in my armpits on Tuesday and saw my last blood tests and nothing shows that hasn't always been a little abnormal. CEA has not been a factor ...

Needle biopsy

Hello,
Does anyone know what the possibly down time is on a ct guided needle biopsy on lymph nodes in the armpit area. They asked me to bring a driver so not sure what it all entails. I have tried searching but have had a hard time finding an answer. Thanks

Re: Incisional Hernia Repair Experiences?

I had a large ventral hernia come out after my resection. Mine was open and basically was the same size as my reaction scar. I was suppose to be in 3-5 days but ended up getting out on day 8. They would not let me leave until I kept all 3meals down. I came home with 3 drains, 2 were taken out a coup...

Re: Optimistic vs Realistic

I too have a special vacation scheduled in December, arranged prior to my dx in May. My optimist side never considered rescheduling the vacation. My realistic side discussed the vacation with my onc and we found a way to make it happen. I am not sure Optimistic and Realistic are at odds with each o...

Re: Optimistic vs Realistic

Hello, Ever since I got the PET scan results of multiple lymph nodes between the neck and pelvic area lighting up, along with a lung mass, friend coworkers and some family keep telling me to be optimistic. Which I am being optimistic, but also being very realistic that there is a very good chance t...

Good news?

So my PET scan said lung mass but I just saw the report for my chest X-ray and it said lungs are clear. Does this mean there is a good chance it is nothing. I'm still waiting to see the pulminology dr. I see my oncologist Friday.

Re: Optimistic vs Realistic

I think the problem is most people just think cancer is cancer and some people beat it and others don't. They don't know about mets and stages and elements that can radically change a person's prognosis. Of course when "the doctor" says, "get your affairs in order" then they'll ...

Re: Optimistic vs Realistic

Thanks All! I just politely say "I am" when they say those things. My sister and I had a real talk the other day where I told her in all reality the cancer is probably back and she agreed so I at least have her that is seeing the real picture with me which helps. On top of what I am most l...

Re: Optimistic vs Realistic

Thanks for all the replies. Yea I figured they probably just don't know what to say. CEA has never been a good marker for me, even before my resection and chemorad I had no notable CEA numbers. I will ask the Dr. about the CA919 test.

Re: how long for PET results

I got a call from the Dr. tonight and was told that multiple lymph nodes showed up and a lung thingie. She is expediting referrals both to a hematologist and pulminologist (sp?) I'm gonna go tomorrow and do a chest xray and a spirometer test. Hopefully the referrals will go through fast and I can ge...
