Re: BREAKING: Pembrolizumab/Keytruda APPROVED for MSI-High CRC

Great info. What about Keytruda's effectiveness to MSS though? My mom is starting Keytruda soon but her MS status is not yet determined so I am wondering about its efficacy. From what I have read so far, it seems Keytruda only benefits those with MSI-H which is a really small percentage of stage IV ...

Ascites. Peritoneal mets confirmed.

Update of my mom's situation. 3-4 litres of ascites is just confirmed present so Irinotecan and Erbitux officially failed. Next steps: paracentesis and Keytruda. Our onc ruled out Stivarga and Lonsurf so I guess Keytruda is our last resort. Exhausting chemo regimens in less than a year. To say we ar...

Re: Irinotecan induced bloating?

My mom feels a bit better after taking loperamide and emptying bowels, but then she also eats frequently to fight the nausea and keep energy level, so the bloating feeling does not go away for long. I just had my 7th infusion of Irinotecan last week and my colon is miserable this week. It cramped u...

Re: Irinotecan induced bloating?

My mom feels a bit better after taking loperamide and emptying bowels, but then she also eats frequently to fight the nausea and keep energy level, so the bloating feeling does not go away for long. X-ray on Monday showed that the pleural fluid is slowly draining. Our onc was confident that it means...

Irinotecan induced bloating?

Anyone on Irinotecan experienced bloating? After my mom's third infusion her belly increasingly feels filled up and looks enlarged. We were scared of possible ascites but our onc said it's very very unlikely. He said most people get diarrhea and some like my mom get bloating...

Re: Constant hunger between chemo infusions?

Hi everyone, Thanks for your replies. Pretty sure the anti-allergy shot before the chemo infusion contains steroid. Not sure if the effect could last for more than a week though! My mom was not given any other drug that contains steroid. I will check out MissMolly's posts. Thank you so much :) Best ...

Constant hunger between chemo infusions?

Anybody feels hungry all the time after chemo infusions? Almost one month in with Irinotecan + Erbitux, my mom feels in need for food much more frequently than before. It's not like she feels starving all the time, but if she haven't eaten for more than 2 hours, she will feel tired quickly. She feel...

Re: Rectal cancer stage 4

As a caregiver to my mom who is also battling stage IV rectal cancer, my advice is not to dwell on Googling too much about the disease especially on the grim sounding but outdated survival stats. Every case is different and we do have many folks here who beat stage IV. Also maintain a healthy and en...

Re: Hair loss from Irinotecan

I've been on Folfiri for a year and a half and still have about 1/2 my hair. It's super thin and fragile and I've cut it to my chin now, but I have it! I use Nioxin shampoo and conditioner, and shake on hair fibers in spots that are really thin. I guess I'm trying to say that everyone is different ...

Re: Hair loss from Irinotecan

I lost my hair the 2nd treatment over three days. I shaved it short when it started coming out in clumps it was less traumatic and less messy that way. I was bald as a baby's butt in a weeks time. Within 2 months I had not a speck of hair on my body. No eyelashes no nose hairs. Nothing! Now 19 mont...

Hair loss from Irinotecan

Hi friends, Last Friday saw my mom's second cycle of Irinotecan + Erbitux. X-ray showed slight reduction of remaining pleural fluid so the drug seems to be working. The cycle was meant to be done on Wednesday but my mom's WBC dropped from 4.4 to 2.0 -- scared us a bit but our onc said it's totally e...

Re: Irinotecan well tolerated + Erbitux rash

Hi CRguy, Thanks for your helpful advice! So one of the surgeons checked my email last night. I am really grateful that he decided to call me today to give some insight. He said surgery for pleural cavity mets is "not impossible" but it is generally for debulking purpose. Pleural effusion ...

Re: Irinotecan well tolerated + Erbitux rash

Update: I am contacting the two surgeons in charge of resection after my mom's stage I diagnosis five years ago for their opinion. Maybe a surgeon would have a different point of view from an oncologist. I hope this marks the start of our counter attack.
