Re: Xeloda dosing and newbie questions. Please help

Your mom could contact her oncologist on Monday to seek clarification on these two issues: 1. Why did the oncologist recommend Xeloda dosing at half the protocol-recommended level during neoadjuvant chemo/radiation? He should be able to explain his rationale for doing this. Normally the low 50% dos...

Re: Hello, I'm new here

I also had Neulasta with my last 3-4 cycles; it worked great and sent my neutrophils and WBCs soaring. I definitely had some bone pain - apparently the majority of your white blood cells are produced in your spine, ribs and hips which is definitely where I felt it. It wasn’t super bad; I just felt l...

Re: BM incontinence

Hey billy, I also had radiation and chemo, plus a rectal resection. I found switching to decaf coffee reduced my issues by at least 50% (probably closer to 75% if I dropped coffee completely, but I’m mentally addicted :) ). I also take an Imodium before each meal, and a fibre supplement twice a day....

Re: 5FU dosage in adjuvant chemo

I have another question that keeps nagging at me and confused. In my sig I listed MHL1+ and the other3. Path report says for them out beside MHL1 "expressed in tumor" (positive) and same exact wording for the others listed in sig. What does that really mean. I tried to find those exact wo...

Re: 5FU dosage in adjuvant chemo

You guys are awesome! I have been going for IV vit c and Meyers cocktails so really wanted to make sure I have the timing right. I would love to get vitc during treatment as it makes me feel so good but don't want to interfere with chemo. No worries! I understand. Perhaps check this with you oncolo...

No worries! From a safety perspective I was told to take precautions for 48 hours after the last dose.

Cheers,

Re: 5FU dosage in adjuvant chemo

Do you guys know how long the oxa and 5FU keep working to kill cancer after disconnect? I can't find a definite answer on the net. I have found a round about answer of hours is all. I think it depends a bit on your definition of “kill cancer” here. Both drugs clear the body quite fast (half-lives o...

Re: 5FU dosage in adjuvant chemo

... JJH I’m curious, how do you get to the protocol dose from 3,456 and 956? Thanks Rob To respond to your question I will give the steps I took to re-create the data items displayed on the pump bag. ⋅  Calculate the patient's BSA and required protocol dosage By using data from the patien...

Re: 5FU dosage in adjuvant chemo

Thank you for posting the rest of the pump data. Now everything makes sense and everything can be accounted for exactly according to the protocol, even the 956 and the 3,456. So, now you can be assured that you are in fact getting the full recommended dose of pump-based 5-FU. Keep in mind that befo...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

I've been working from home for the past two weeks and I've noticed less clustering than before. It's possible that it's due to less coffee as I haven't had any in two weeks. I normally get it at the office and I'm not comfortable with buying it at coffee stores right now. This makes sense to me Mi...

Re: 5FU dosage in adjuvant chemo

Ok thanks. I can’t claim to understand this fully, but it looks like you might have 3,456 mg of fluorouracil in 69 ml of total liquid (feels about right). This 69 ml total gets delivered at 1.5 ml per hour, which is 46 hours (correct for 5FU protocol, being 48 hours minus your initial ~2 hrs infusio...

Re: Cancer Center Recommendations

I think these are both strong choices. I’m not in the States but I got second opinions from both, and overall I preferred my experience with MSK. I think you’ll struggle to find many people with a negative thing to say about them. One consideration with peritoneal mets - this is fairly specialised a...

Re: 5FU dosage in adjuvant chemo

Thanks for the link, JJH. I must being doing something wrong. I put in H 63", W 97, 2400 for dosage. It came up 2304 for dosage. My 5fu pump bag says 956. It is way off. When I do this calculation I get 1.99m2 for the BSA, which by coincidence is exactly the same as mine. This should equate to...

Re: My CRC with liver mets journey

PET scan confirmed new activity. Chemo will restart, probably Monday assuming Dr Stein can get in touch with Dr Kemeny by then. Dr Stein says 4 rounds, then scans to assess next steps. No talk of surgery even when I asked; don’t know if that’s driven by Covid or something else. Ugh. Sorry Ginabeewe...

Re: My CRC with liver mets journey

Ginabewell, this is super interesting, and particularly for me as I also had a positive RA test before I was diagnosed with CRC. I was having joint pain in my hands (which turned out to be tendonitis from the gym), but my doc screened for RA and I had a positive anti-CCP test, which is very specific...
