Re: when the end is near

I was told in September that there was nothing more that they could do for me. I spent about a week crying before finally getting help and getting out of the pity pit I had dug. One day as I sobbed on my husband, I wailed "I'm dying", and he said back, "We're all dying, you just have ...

Re: Avastin and Blood Thinners

I developed blood clots while on the Avastin so I was immediately taken off it and I now have to do daily Fragmin (heparin) injections so that I don't get more. I wasn't put back on the Avastin.

Re: How to respond to people that think you are done with ca

This has been a really tough one for me. I have been off treatment since the beginning of September and have been looking and feeling good. I'm off treatment, not because I'm in remission, but because the doctors here have nothing left to offer me. It's been hard to decide what each person should be...

Re: Do you read doctor notes?

I started asking for my doctor's notes after I discovered that I wasn't remembering everything I was being told. At our center, I have to wait about a week and then request them at a special office where I can get anything that's in my file.
I've found it very useful.

Re: K-RAS AND BRAF. please give me information

I could be wrong, but it is my understanding that there are actually 3 different mutations colorectal cancer patients can have. The most common is the kRAS mutation which affects 40-50% of crc'ers and which most people are tested for. You are right, the mutation does mean that the anti-EGFR drugs su...

Re: Great article in Magazine Colon Cancer IV

I know someone who had 5 lung mets removed by microwave ablation. I've also heard of cryoablation but here it's only used for prostate cancer.
I live in Canada and don't have access to techniques like these (but I'm actively fighting for them!).

Re: But...we look so normal...

Thank you for this post. I thought I was the only one who didn't find all those "you look so good" comments welcoming. If it's someone who knows I still have cancer then I don't mind it. I think it's when the person saying it thinks I'm fine and isn't validating what I'm going through that...

Re: Taken off treatment

Sorry about your news. I was taken off treatment in September. I also think a second (or even 3rd) opinion is a good idea. I found someone who could help me on my 3rd try (but couldn't get approval for it). I was offered two Phase 1 trials but I'm turning them both down as the side effects were too ...

Re: Stoma noise and rumbling: Embarrassing?

I've had a "temporary" ileo for almost 2 years now and I can say that I don't ever remember it being noisy while I was out. Usually the only time it's noisy is late in the evening. I do eat a low-fibre diet however due to the constant diarrhea (from radiation) so that probably has a lot to...

Re: No More Erbitux

I had 3 doses of panitunamab. I was given an antibiotic to start beforehand to limit the rash. Also I used a thick cream and a hydrocortisone cream once a day (each). I was told to stay out of the sun. My rash wasn't too bad, I just looked like a 13 year-old with acne. Unfortunately, the panitunamab...

I'm so sorry that you are going through all this stuff. This is the place to come and vent and get virtual hugs. I'm sure just about all of us have "lost it" at some time or another. You'll find your way again.
Hugs

Re: CSN Forum

I joined the CSN board the same time as this one and I go on there right after being on this one. It's definitely different. There has been a big uproar there this last week which has not been nice. However, I admit that I have learned a lot on that board and have made some friends that I now email ...

Re: the ileostomy and the sauna

I'm too scared to try a hot tub. Last year I stupidly put one of those hot packs they give people getting iv chemo, on my abdomen. The result was not pretty.
If you try it, let us know.

Re: Stage 4: How do you welcome someone to the club?

I'm new to this forum but I'm still very sorry you had to join our club. From what I'm gleaned from your posts, you have a great sense of humor and you will really need that in this next stage. Take some time to adjust and then get fighting!
