Increased CEA

My mum has stopped chemo for 6 months since her allergic reaction to Oxaliplatin. Now her rountine checking of CEA increased from 3.5 to 19.2, so she has to start folfiri. We heard that this drug is going to make her easier for diarrhea, are there any possible tips for our family? It is also scaring...

Re: HELP.....Oxaliplatin allergy

So sorry to hear that but I think they are right not to continue with oxaliplatin. My mum had similar allergic syndrome on her 10th chemo of folfox. It is life threatening. It is difficult to accept stopping folfox at once, but it is more important to ask for aggressive treatments other than folfox....

Re: Stoma Reversal or Not

Thank you for the detailed explanation that actually solved our concerns to a certain extent. We have just met with the surgeon. He leaves the decision of reversal to my mum. He told us my mum’s colon is doing well and clear through the scan, and it is ready for reversal. However he also admits ther...

Re: Will they operate in more than one spot affected. Im so sad

Hello Trying. Stage 4 is tough, and I know it as a caretaker of my mum. My mum has gone through 10 Folfox and her lung mets are now stable. Surgeons told us it is incurable as there are multiple nudoles. It is definitely disappointing and hard for us to accept the truth, but she is doing well right ...

Re: Stoma Reversal or Not

Thanks for all your ideas. I will definitely bring up questions regarding to LAR symptoms and adaptation tmr. It is a very big decision to make and we tend to let mum decide by herself, but she is still 50-50. Sometimes she feels so tired searching for toilet for clearing the bag, but I guess this w...

Re: Stoma Reversal or Not

Thank you for all your inputs. My mum and I are going to meet the surgeon in Wednesday, and we are quite sure he is going to ask my mum to have the reversal. My mum is now 50-50 as she knows life will be tough after the reversal , but she wants to get rid of the stoma. Comments here are realistic an...

Stoma Reversal or Not

Hello. It has been a while since my last post on my mum. She is now having her Chemo break at home, which made her reconsider the reversal of stoma. Her tumor was very close to anus. The doctor said she is lucky enough as he got the skill of helping this kind of patients and it is possible for stoma...

Re: Feeling really sad and in need of support

So sorry for your symptoms for chemo. Maybe reducing oxi is a good idea coz that’s what my mum did in her treatments and she has finished10 folfox. My mum likes having soup instead of warm water since soup has more nutrient and taste better. Cancer is a depressive thing that always pop up to one’s m...

28 years old, blood in stool

My sister has always been anxious since my mum confirmed rectal cancer. She used to have blood in stool periodically 2 years ago, but it just happened a few times, especially after she has eaten unhealthy snacks such as potato chips and deep fired food. When we found out our mum has rectal cancer an...

Re: Is the Chemo Working?

My mum has ten rounds of folfox and the side effects are accumulative. Side effects are tolerable at first then gradually develop. CEA is an better indicator for the usefulness of chemo.

Re: Just found out I have colon cancer... time to fight!

So sorry to hear that. This thing just come without much notice. my mum won’t discover rectal cancer if she hasn’t experience bad pain for the whole night. Unforgettable day for our family indeed. Xeloda was not useful in my mum’s case so I don’t have much to contribute except make sure take them af...
