Re: Adhesions

Sara, yes, she has a small bowel obstruction. It's confirmed on CT scan. How is she doing?? They've said that my moms small bowel is blocked on multiple places and might not resolve. I really hope it does. She has been npo for 48 hours. They haven't passed an NG tube though. When we ask they say it...

Re: Small bowel obstruction

From my understanding for bowel obstruction the first treatment for anyone is to keep them on bowel rest meaning nothing by mouth (no food or water) and they insert an NG tube to suck out any bile or fluid that is not moving through the GI tract, hence the vomiting. They leave the tube in to help t...

Small bowel obstruction

Hey everyone. My mom has stage 4 colon cancer with mets to liver, lungs, peritoneum. For the past few days she has been having intermittent vomiting and diarrhea. CT scan showed obstruction in ileum due to mets in omentum. Has anyone had small bowel obstruction? They are treating it conservatively n...

Re: Adhesions

Thanks for all your replies. The timing of my message was significant. She ended up getting an obstruction yesterday and is now in the hospital. Dr's don't want to do surgery because of the peri mets, so I really really hope this blockage works itself out! Hey..my mom has peri mets and has ended up...

Re: Very depressed

I have seeding on my omentum and a mass. I also showed some on my liver. The last few scans did not say anything about my liver so not sure what is up with that. I'm pretty much inoperable but everything is responding VERY well to the chemo. My signature tells my story. I have no idea what is going...

Hi all, my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in December 16. The primary was resected. After surgery she had 4 small spots in the liver. N very small lung nodules. Started folfox. After 3 months two liver lesions disappeared. cea came down to 17 from 41. So far so good. Talked to the liver...

Re: Peri mets, Stage IV --- Need advice

Hey AJ. My mom has stage 4 colon cancer with mets to liver. Her recent scan shows omental thickening which most probably are mets. She's also been having right sided pain after ileostomy reversal. Hopefully those are just adhesions. But very worried now :( we are looking into hipec options. But most...

Sara,
Folfiri often causes abdominal cramps that can be quite severe but can be controlled with medications such as Attropine, Nulev or Limotil. I had aches and pains while on treatment but it was worst in the first few treatments it for easier after a few months. Let the oncologists know of her symptoms and they should be able to manage her pain.
So sorry she has to go through this.

The body aches have been really bad with this. Folfox she tolerated quite well. Every pain and ache she feels makes me think of mets :( and gets us worried. Thank you so much for your reply.

Re: Side effects or something else

My mom has horrible responses to chemo and is unable to walk w/o a 2 person assist even after Folfox. She ends up only getting chemo once a month because it takes her that long to recover. Last time she was even in the hospital for about a week and has almost no memory of it, and her Onco decreased...

Re: Cimetidine anyone?

I would encourage you to get, and discuss the extra bloodwork done to productively compare experiences and improve results. My wife used 1600 mg/day of cimetidine, along with a number of supplements before and after two surgeries; cimetidine explicitly during the second surgery for her para aortic ...

Re: Cimetidine anyone?

I've been taking 800mg daily since shortly after my diagnosis in 2014 and I do believe strongly that it helps--particularly in the immediate pre- and post-surgical periods. Thank you so much. Ive been kicking myself for not making her take it sooner. Maybe it wudve stopped the spread. She is due fo...
