Recurrence confirmed: Para aortic nodes are positive for cancer

DH had his follow up appointment today for his lymph node biopsy. Unfortunately, the cancer has returned. He has a port placement scheduled on the 31, than will begin FOLFIRI + Avastin on Aug 1. His Dr also ordered an MRI of his femur, spine, and brain to rule out mets. If anything looks suspicious,...

Re: Pet Scan results

My husband just had a PET scan so this info is fresh on my mind. A PET scan will *light up* or show areas of increased metabolic activity, the reasons for which can include cancer. An SUV score over 2 is suspicious for cancer. Infection and inflammation are among things that can cause an an SUV over...

Re: HELP.....Oxaliplatin allergy

My husband developed an allergy to oxaliplatin. The oncologist gave him IV Benadryl and he was able to continue all 12 cycles, last 2 were reduced due to neuropathy. He slept the whole time, and was not permitted to drive himself home, but that worked for him.

Re: Freaking Out a Little

After 3.5 years on Colon Talk I'm still not sure how to do links but I recommend Googling "Go live your life" a song by Wade Hayes, a stage 4 colon cancer survivor (who beat a lymph node recurrence in his diaphram and originally presented with liver spread). His story is amazing and I just...

Re: Bone biopsy experiences? Update-done, kinda

We arrived bright and early for DH biopsy at our local hospital. The Interventional Radiologist stated that he did not feel the bones were cancer at all. He said what they were but I forget the word. So that was a relief. He was still going to biopsy T11, but after an hour, the nurse came out and to...

Bone biopsy experiences? Update-done, kinda

Hello all. If anyone here has been through a bone biopsy, I would appreciate it if you could share your experience. DH will have T11(spine) and his femur biopsied on Friday. I believe they will take a piece of the actual bone, not just the marrow??? How was recovery time? It seems like a pretty big ...

Re: Bizarre results, please help!

His CEA was 5 at diagnosis. One is an all time low. DH was scheduled today for a bone biopsy on July 20. It is frustrating to us that they cannot do the nodes as well, due to their risky location. DH was in an accident 7 years ago and broke his back in 2 places, his knee and both ankles. Our concern...

Bizarre results, please help!

I had the weekend to digest my DH PET scan results, now I have more questions than answers. His Dr is on vacation until July 19, so I would love anyone to weigh in with their thoughts, or suggestions. First, a brief background. In Feb, DH started noticing some shortness of breath upon exertion. Beca...

Re: Areas of high density in lungs...infection or cancer? UPDATE: BAD NEWS

I would seek a second opinion about removing the lymph nodes, if indeed only the lymph nodes were cancer. The CT, with contrast, said nothing about the bones, in fact it noted, no skeletal abnormalities. He has no bone pain at all, it wasn't even a consideration. The CT states there are lymph nodes ...

Re: Areas of high density in lungs...infection or cancer? UPDATE: BAD NEWS

PET scan results arrived today. Most bizarre, there was nothing of interest noted on lungs. Before the PET, both the oncologist and pulmonologist stated they would be shocked if this was cancer. However, 3 para aortic lymph nodes lit up near the kidney, as well as T11 on the spine and his left femur...

Areas of high density in lungs...infection or cancer? UPDATE: BAD NEWS

My DH had his scans yesterday and we got the dreaded phone call from the oncologist this morning. A bit of recent history (full history in signature): About 4 months ago DH started noticing shortness of breath upon exertion, and some wheezing. He mentioned this to his oncologist who ordered a scan a...

non-specific inflammation...what could it be?

A week ago my husband had his 3rd post cancer colonoscopy. He has them yearly because they keep finding polyps. This year, the dr removed 2 polyps (1 was precancerous) and an "area of erosion" in the ascending colon was biopsied. Well we received the report today and the area of erosion is...

Fainted during prep

It's been awhile since I've posted. So 1st, an update. DH is officially cancer free 3 years and change out from dx. While we celebrate his cancer free status, we mourn the loss if his brother, who died in Nov from Lung cancer. I was a daily reader of Colon Talk and still check in a couple times a mo...
