Re: Need advice

I would suggest you or your dad contact her doctor, just to let them know what is going on. I know HIPAA laws have their limitations on what care providers can and cannot discuss with other people about an individuals care. However, I signed some documents at my clinic, and also have my living will ...

Re: Newbie here... questions about liver resection...

Thank you for your reply, Julie! My appointment is Wednesday, and I definitely have my questions ready. I am looking forward to seeing what kind of options they have for me, hopefully something besides the "chemo, chemo and more chemo," I have been getting from doctors so far. I have 2 sma...

Re: Chemo comfort kit

If I took a snack, I would usually take something bland and easily portable, like a peanut butter sandwich with a banana or granola bar. I never had much nausea with folfox, but it also zapped my appetite. Hydration is good advice... If he isn't a big water drinker, try keeping something like juice ...

Re: Chemo comfort kit

All I took with me when I was on FOLFOX was a couple bottles of room-temperature water. For me, the cold sensitivity set in immediately once the oxaliplatin was started. My mouth and lips were painfully tingly whenever I tried to eat/drink anything cold. If you think he might want a snack, take some...

Re: Xeloda and Avastin

I am on Xeloda/Avastin right now... I am on continuous therapy (every day, no breaks - as opposed to the 2 weeks on/1 week off a lot of people do). I have been on it about 8 weeks now. I asked my oncologist almost the exact same question you are asking - is this supposed to keep the cancer stable, w...

Re: Newbie here... questions about liver resection...

Small update: I have an appointment at MSKCC now, with Dr. Julio Garcia Aguilar... It was explained to me he is a colorectal/oncologic surgeon, I will have scans, and will get an opinion on what he/they think my options are from there... I am so appreciative of the info on this site... I am just won...

Re: Newbie here... questions about liver resection...

Well, I took the plunge and contacted MSK... I have made all the requests for my medical records to be forwarded to them... When I spoke with the person at MSK, he said that they would review my records and decide which doctor I would see. I did tell him I am going to them specifically to inquire ab...

Re: Newbie here... questions about liver resection...

Wow, I appreciate all the feedback... :D Dianne - regarding why I am on Xeloda/Avastin instead of going straight to surgery - according to my oncologist, we are taking this route to see how my cancer behaves on a lower dose of treatment. Primarily because we know for certain that it is aggressive le...

Re: Newbie here... questions about liver resection...

From my research -if I could go anywhere for liver resection it would be MD Anderson. But for convenience's sake, I will likely have mine done (if I can get to that point) at Siteman in STL. I hope you get to that point, too! It's a good feeling, but scary at the same time... The only surgeries I h...

Newbie here... questions about liver resection...UPDATE!

Hi! I have been lurking off and on, and finally decided to join in... I am a 35 year old female, diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in April 2013, with liver and ovarian mets. When I was diagnosed, my colon tumor was non-obstructive, and my liver was in such bad shape, that I went straight to chemo...
