Re: Advice Needed: Avastin

No peritoneal metastasis has been identified yet. Her lymphatic channel, from her sigmoid colon through the aortic region, to her Virchow lymph node have been positive from the start of diagnosis in October 2014. NED since spring of 2015.

Re: Advice Needed: Avastin

My wife's experiences with Avastin are the exact same as GrouseMan has described. It is not a chemo, yet it is a biologic drug that takes away oxygen from newly forming cancer cells in the body and it is used in conjunction with traditional chemo treatments. Use the search term "Avastin" o...

Re: Not the greatest news

For all Stage IV patients who are metastatic and are not on Avastin, bring up this drug in conversation with your oncologist. It has been around since 2004 and is extremely effective with colon cancer. In order to survive this deadly disease you need to be educated about the known benefits of this l...

Re: Not the greatest news

Hey Nik, I am sorry to hear what you are going through. Your footer does not list Avastin as part of your treatment plan, as well as many others on this board. Why is that for stage IV? I have been told that Avastin is part of traditional maintenance chemotherapy along with traditional chemo drugs l...

Re: Has anyone heard of schools helping out if you have to move out of state for a month or so?

Hey Nik, If her JR-HS does not have a high speed tech department then ask her counselor to seek out assistance from the High School Techies (employees or students)... I know some classrooms have cameras installed for monitoring the students and teachers. If the High School has a portable system, may...

Re: Para-aortic node recurrence

Has your Doctor used Avastin with you yet? My wife has a similar prognosis and has been on Avastin early on with 5FU and now Zeloda. She has been NED for several months now. Talk with your doctors about it. Good Luck!

Re: CEA down - Mets and lymph nodes only stable

Like most others on this site suggest, going to a major cancer center is always a plus for creating plans and options for treatment. Even if you do not stay there for the implementation of their plan, it is worth listening to what the newest treatments and combination of treatments can bring. Major ...

Re: Rant: Death

For those who follow American Football, my advice is to make 1st downs and move the chains for the next play and gain of yards... Eventually after several 1st downs you will make it across the gridiron and will get a touchdown. Touchdowns can be special days, events, and various milestones. These sh...

Re: A bit of a rant

Mike, From our experiences the "Oxy" is more likely what is causing the neuropathy. My wife's doctor eliminated it after 6 months and the 5FU and Avastin were more tolerable to her system with fewer negative side effects. We were told that the "oxy" effects last several weeks aft...

Re: Rant: Death

...Don't everyone jump into this conversation all at once now:) I will break the ice on this one Nik. This is not an easy topic for anyone, especially those of you who are suffering from this disease... I am clearly a spouse of a current survivor and warrior in your struggle to assume as normal a li...

Re: Stage IV distant lymph node mets only questions

My wife has the same prognosis, stage IV with distant lymph nodes both Virchow node and para-aortic nodes. Use the search tools on this forum to read from others past experiences with similar diagnosis. It has been helpful to me to get a better understanding of this disease and what treatment plans ...

Re: Cancer in Lymph Nodes

I would suggest asking your Doctor about adding Avastin to your treatment program. You may want to update your diagnosis footer so that people with similar experiences can chime in as well. I agree with others that "chemo for life" should include 5FU or Xeloda and Avastin regiments. If you...

Re: Just diagnosed and hopeless

Do not feel hopeless Liz... It is a "new normal" but there is still much to live for and much to hope for. I agree with all of the advice previously written. My wife went to a large cancer center for her treatment plan and has been going to a local hospital to execute the plan. The local h...

Re: Just diagnosed and trying to keep from freaking out

I agree with what everyone is telling you so far. You appear to have a steady mind and everything you are experiencing is normal. I would also ask your oncologist about Avastin too, along with the FolFox (5FU) program. As you learn how to navigate this blog you can use search terms associated with y...

Re: Pump vs Pills

My wife had the same decision to make because she is stage IV and is on chemo for life. After a year of Folfox and Avastin she is now on Xeloda pills for two weeks on and one week off (along with Avastin at the beginning of the treatment week). We hear that Folfox and Xeloda are pretty much the same...
