Re: CEA as a marker during chemo?

I was at 2.1 post liver resection. Right after surgery, they found some new spots on my liver. Probably 2 months out. Started chemo immediately. CEA then rose to 3.6 and then 4.0 as 3 weeks ago. Will be getting a CT scan tomorrow. Then followup on Monday where they'll test CEA again. My oncologist w...

Re: Newly diagnosed stage 4 colon cancer at 42. Looking for hope and inspiration.

I was diagnosed this past January at age 42 as well. I’d tell you not to focus on survival statistics. But it’s practically impossible. I resisted for a long time and eventually caved. So, what I’ll say is that everyone is an individual. And yes, you should look at long-term survival stories for ins...

Re: 5 years from dx today

It was five years ago today when today seemed a lifetime away. For those new to the journey, take a deep breath, listen to your doctors, ask questions and never hesitate to get a second opinion. Butt!! Most importantly stay away from Dr. Google, I had myself dead and buried at least five times. Sti...

Thank you all for your feedback. It’s an odd thing to feel good and yet be worried like this. I should be focusing on the good and going with it.

Re: 23 years old with stage 4 colon cancer

I was dx'd at 29 as stage 3 and have had mets to stage 4. At one point, I was told that I had an 8% chance of survival. I have now been at this for 11 years, walking this journey this more like a chronic disease and not like the disease that's going to kill me. There is hope! That being said, I hig...

Feeling good. So why am I worried?

I feel odd posting this. I’m hoping folks with similar experience can shed light. When I was diagnosed in January, I spent very little time lamenting the situation. Figured it was better to put the gloves on and fight right away. Colon resection was successful. My first six rounds of chemo produced ...

Re: MRI shows 6 new liver Mets 2 weeks after clean CT scan? CEA normal.

Hey Cemac, I am new here as of today. I just thought i would chime in because in reading this post it seems we have a lot of similarities. I am 40 and was dx on 10/5/18. I am stage 4 with 6 or 7 mets to liver. Had a colon resection on 10/6. Like you my CT scan of liver showed clear originally but t...

Re: Baseline CEA correlation with metastasis and survival??

Agreed with above. My onc and I agreed we'll keep testing for it. But we're not going to use it as an entirely reliable marker. In my case, I had my CEA go all the way down from 60 to 2.1 after chemo and liver resection this year. But, about a month ago, they found some new spots in my liver. CEA ha...

Re: Biopsy came back positive. Now what?

@hiker, I wanted to follow up on this thread. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that Duke may begin offering HAI treatment soon. I had a follow-up with my oncologist and she mentioned to surgeons from MSK were coming down to meet with the board. If I understood correctly, they would be relocating a...

Checking in and sending positive vibes, prayers your way. Hope the news is good. For what it’s worth, I had CT guided biopsy last week. I don’t know how different yours will be since it’s a different part of the body. But, I can tell you the procedure was virtually painless and quick. Didn’t really ...

Re: CEA increase on FOLFIRI

Hang in there. CEA can be a fickle thing. For me, CEA seemed to be a reliable marker. Once I started FOLFOX / Avasting, I saw it go down from 60 to 4.7 right before my 6th and last session. Post liver resection, I was at 2.1. But now despite finding new mets in my liver, my CEA has remained at norma...

Re: Biopsy came back positive. Now what?

I had 3-4 mets spread over both lobes and they were all removed during the resection and HAI pump implant surgery. However, if you have mets that can't be resected they can install the pump, hit the mets with super powerful chemo to eliminate them or shrink them enough that surgery may be a possibi...
