Re: Irinotecan

My wife will be starting iranatecan (sp?) On the 22 of this month. She has had eleven rounds of oxsyliplatin. Her dr. told her the iraonatecan will be easier on her compared to the oxy. Know I am confused. Has anyone had both? Which was easier to handle? Hi, Maybe I am just lucky but so far, after ...

Re: survived stage IV colon cancer or colon cancer recurrenc

Well, I'm Stage IV now with inoperable abdominal recurrence on the surface of the small intestines and who knows where else. I'm doing pretty well at the moment. The chemo (FOLFIRI) is not too bad. My appetite and energy levels have improved. My CEA and CA 19-9 have started to come down. Well, my CE...

Re: Changing chemo

I'm on FOLFIRI and I haven't found it too bad at all so far. I'm 3 treatments in. RE the big D, all three times I have had some diarhea after a week or so but it is easily controllable with immodium and it only lasts a few days. It's actually somewhat of a relief after the mild constipation which pr...

Re: katie show/ CC's disturbing facebook post

39% might be right if you combine all stage III (at 50-70% depending on who you talk to) and stage IV (at 8-10%). The sum total of ALL those patients is probably in that 39% range. Stage IV stats suck, no way around it, and that's bringing the sample down.. The picture is NOT saying that at all. It...

Re: katie show/ CC's disturbing facebook post

I think the diagram means that 39% of patients are diagnosed at an early stage and not that the survival rate is 39% for stage iii and iv http://www.cancer.org/research/infographics/colon-cancer-early-detection However, the statistical survival rate for stage iii can be forty-something%, depending o...

Re: Anyone Here with Cancer do Any of the Following?

I read an article the other day that said if you are concerned about nitrates in food--by the way spinach and other vegetables have nitrites and nitrates--to each some citric acid with the food. Neutralizes the effect of the nitrites/nitrates somehow. My grandparents used bacon grease to cook every...

Re: Anyone Here with Cancer do Any of the Following?

No way any of the things on your list can be directly related to CRC, though smoking might come close. I tried to figure this out when I was first diagnosed. All the web sites, papers etc which I read seemed to agree on the following risk factors: Age Diet Healthy weight Exercise High alcohol intak...

Re: signet ring genetic

Less metastatic? Mine spread to the small intestines very quickly. I think SRC tends to recur locally e.g Peritoneal more than other types which tend to spread to liver and lungs.

Re: Pulmonary embolism and folfox

Yes I had that too. I was hospitalized for 5 days over Christmas with multiple Pulmonary Emboli. I was also hospitalized for five days with deep vein thrombosis in Oct last year. Apparently the clots were caused by my port, which was removed while I was being treated for DVT. I had to have another p...

Re: Signet cell colon cancer/pc

Hi Dan, I am also dealing with recurrence. Many spots on the small intestine. My doctors are also adamant that HIPEC is not the right treatment for me. Instead I will also be doing more chemo. FOLFIRI. I start tomorrow. We can be "chemo buddies" Best wishes and good luck, Paul

Re: Does one "crash" after a FOLFIRI infusion?

Thanks BB. I guess I will find out soon enough how it affects me. My first chemo was Xelox where the 5FU is spread out over two weeks. Everything else was infused in one session. Can't say I am going to miss the oxali.

Does one "crash" after a FOLFIRI infusion?

And if so, when does it typically happen?
