Re: Wives of husbands with Stage IV Colon Freaking Cancer

Thank you Jacques for the bump, I wasn't aware of this thread. Just a few words for the other spouses here, especially new ones, based on my personal experience. It is an amazing resource, and a place where others do understand what you're going through (unlike friends or relatives who, although mea...

Re: STAGE IV RC GUYS AND GALS

So sorry that you're going through all this - do NOT apologize for posting! Venting is a great use of the forum. LARS is so nasty - I'm watching my husband going through it, some days are ok but others are just plain awful, for what seems to be no rhyme or reason... It's a bummer the VATS was painfu...

Update from Riki's Wife

Feeling incredibly sad for you and your children, Ruth. This disease is truly awful and so cruel. It’s difficult to believe that Riki won’t be posting here anymore, he was such a strong voice on the forum! Thank you for sharing his last moments with us. He was lucky to have you as a companion throug...

Re: When it rains...

Quick update. DH finished 5 sessions of SBRT to L3 and L4 at OHSU last week. He came home just in time to celebrate Thanksgiving! The first two sessions were very painful (probably because of inflammation), but the last 3 went fine. He's already noting a great improvement in his ability to walk (he ...

Oh that’s great, thanks Bpaint! In Portland all week while DH receives SBRT at OHSU, but I’ll check back in with his onc when we get back home.

Thanks Nor Cal, it’s good to know that appeal could work! DH’s oncologist is looking into it.

Detailed genetic testing - did your insurance cover it? How much does it cost?

DH's onc requested the "Providence Personalized Medicine Panel, Solid Tumor prov seq523" which tests for 523 mutations, but our insurance did not approve it. We can appeal (and will), but I'm curious to know how much is costs, if we can't get it covered and decide to pay for it from our ow...

Re: When it rains...

Thanks roadrunner! Yes, that's what the doc said - places like OHSU are more likely to "push the boundaries" than a smaller, local hospital. He also called his predecessor (now the head of radiation oncology at an even larger place) who did DH's treatment in 2019, and who agrees that re-ir...

Re: When it rains...

Quick update. We flew back last night from Portland (OR), where we met Dr Nima Nabavizadeh, a radiation oncologist and SBRT specialist at OHSU. After reviewing DH's case he agreed to treat, even though "we're entering uncharted territory" (his words) since this will be the third time that ...

Re: Beginning TIL Therapy at NIH Next Week

I'm so sorry to read this! But you are not out of options yet, "it's not over until it's over"... My husband had laparoscopic adrenalectomy which was very successful, that's maybe something to look into as a TIL complement (i.e., TIL systemic, complemented with local ablations). Try not to...

Re: Back after 10 years... recovering from surgery for cecal bascule, with a question

All my condolences, Stu... You've always been such a positive force here, now it's our turn to try and do our best to be present for you and your mom. She seems like a wonderful, strong person, I hope treatment goes well (my husband would agree on saying no to Oxaliplatin, that was a really rough on...
