Canadians: treatment question

Have any of you Canadians out there had rfa for lung mets, microwave ablation, SBRT, or cyberknife? The chair of our Gastrointestinal Tumour Group wrote to me (I wrote to them in Dec) and said that all these procedures were still experimental and not licensed for use. He said that there have not bee...

Re: Oncologist Refuses Prognosis

My oncs never told me how serious things were but I had done my research so whenever they talked about the ct scan reports, I knew what it meant for me. And my tears showed them I knew. I did ask my onc at 1 point: if I stopped chemo now, would I have 6 months and she said I'd definitely have more t...

Re: Vision Problems on Chemo?

I had different vision issues with all 3 lines of chemo. So, since I've been off chemo now for more than 3 months and things seem to have settled, I'm going in for new glasses.

Re: Do you worry cancer may of returned with every little tw

I'm stage IV, not in treatment, so just a matter of time before the big shoe drops. It's very hard not to think every new pain isn't something terrible but so far I'm feeling pretty good and not in pain. Even though it isn't a laughing matter, we've made this a joke in my house: I get a headache, mu...

Re: vitamin d deficiencies

As an update on my earlier post on this thread, I tried to get in a high-dose Vit D Phase 1 trial but my onc phoned today and told me she found out that you have to be a resident of BC to get in and I'm not. So I'm just going to increase my Vit D (but not too high) and see what happens. It will be i...

Re: Surgery called off

I have had neither surgery nor radiation for my lung mets but it was my understanding that surgery was considered better than radiation. Also, I thought radiofrequency abalation was also better than regular radiation. It will be interesting to see what the tumor board says on Tuesday. MD Anderson is...

Re: Ready to Stop Further Chemo Treatments

This is a personal decision. Some people handle chemo better than others and for some it works when for others it doesn't. I will have to make a decision regarding this as well. My onc gave up on me in September and said she had no more standard treatment to offer. However, I only ever had 1 round o...

Re: B-RAF (BRAF) Mutation

I am kRAS wild and was just tested in the fall for other mutations to see if I qualified for a Phase 1 trial. While waiting for the test results (took 2 months!) I was asked to take part in another Phase 1 trial testing an anti-EGFR therapy. I told the trial nurse that I wouldn't agree to it until I...

Re: Question for women with rectal cancer

Oh, I wish I had known this stuff before! It's so good that your rad onc told you about this Jaynee. I even brought sex up to my rad onc on my first visit because it had started to hurt having intercourse before I was diagnosed because of the position on my tumor. Still no one told me what to expect...

Re: What do you do in a support group?

Thanks for the information. The closest support group for me is 3 hours away so I tried to get one set up in my city but was told at the cancer center that patients can't do that! After reading these posts, I'm going to try again.

Re: semi O/T, flying to the States

Had no problem with security but the airline didn't want me to fly. I, unfortunately, was experiencing my severe abdominal cramping. The crew asked me a bunch of times whether I should be flying. My husband assured them it was not unusual and I would be feeling better in a couple of hours. For the s...

semi O/T, flying to the States

So today I'm flying to the States, first time since my need for heparin injections. I have my letter from the doctor so I should be good, right?? I will be going through 3 securities so really hoping I don't get the pat down (got an ileostomy). I have learned from this board though, if I have an iss...

Re: HELP!! BRIEF UPDATE

So sorry you have new burdens to bear.
Thanks for taking the time to update us. I'm relatively new on the board but it's obvious that you are a rock here and at home.
Glad that you have someone to talk with already.

Re: vitamin d deficiencies

I am now up to 3000iu a day but going to 4000in this week.
I am waiting to hear if I've been accepted into a high dose Vit D Phase 1 trial. Those patients not getting high dose but are the "control" group will still be given 2000iu a day.

Re: Temp Ileo: List off food items to get me started

When I got home from the hospital after having my ileo done, a friend was already there blending my foods! So I started with fruit and yoghurt blended together and then frozen in ice cube trays. This was great because it's best to eat small amounts more often. I also had blended soups then graduated...
