Re: Confusion on when cancer is classified metastatic (Stage 4)

In the article cited, it is important to note that the period covered is 1974-1985. The 5-year survival rates seem rather low, and far less than current survival rates that I have come across in medical sources for colorectal cancer. Many new treatments have become available in the last 10 years tha...

Re: New Member - Question on Chemo Drugs

I had 5-FU and radiation prior to surgery, and started having symptoms during the 3rd week. After my 5 weeks of treatment were complete (23 sessions radiation; 10 of 5-FU) I felt miserable for 2 weeks, but then recovered completely. I am on my 8th week of of 10 planned rounds of Xeloda (post-surgery...

Confusion on when cancer is classified metastatic (Stage 4)

I notice that some people on this website are classifying themselves as metastatic because they have cancer in lymph nodes some distance from their primary colorectal tumor. I may be confused but it seems to me that metastatic means that a TUMOR has formed on an organ at a distant site; not just wit...

Re: Xeloda after VATS

I had 2 weeks of infused 5-FU with 5 weeks of radiation prior to surgery for Stage 3 rectal tumor. The tumor was completely removed with no identifiable remaining cancer. After surgery adjunctive treatment was recommended to reduce the chances of a cancer recurrance.I just finished my 7th of 8 cycle...

How long on adjunct-chemo after surgery?

With Rectal cancer: Stage 3 with 1 positive node, I was put on 8 rounds of Xeloda(1 week on/ 1 week off) after successful surgery which left no trace of cancer. I'm almost finished & was pleasantly surprised that my side-effects have been very mild compared to my pre-surgical regimen of infused ...

When is proper time for iliostomy reversal?

After a rectum resection to remove a Stage 3 tumor, the surgeon planned to wait 4 weeks before doing a reversal of my post-surgical stoma. However, when he was told that I would be getting 8 rounds of Xeloda (1 wk on/1 wk off), he said it would be best to wait until chemo is complete before doing th...

How long do patients stay on XELODA after surgery?

After 5 weeks of radiation with 10 days of intravenous 5-FU, I had surgery which completely removed a stage 3 rectal tumor. Now, I am taking 3,000 daily XELODA post-op. The oncologist initially suggested I have 8 cycles of treatment (7 days Xeloda;7 days no drug). I have minimal symptoms beyond some...
